Dark Crystal or Labyrinth

I'm female and I love The Dark Crystal!!! (even though I saw Labyrinth first)
I like the Labyrinth but, as someone else stated, Sarah is a very annoying character. All she does is whine about her brother and how things aren't "fair".
Labyrinth is like a fairy tale. Dark Crystal is more like a legend.
And maybe that's a big reason why I enjoy Dark Crystal so much more. I could watch it once a week for a year and still enjoy it. Kira is cute, smart, and courageous. The creatures are cool. Aughra is funny and wise. It's a darker gritter story. It has enslaved creatures, a machine that drains your "essence", and the Skeksis and Garthim are quite scary.
I'm going to watch it right now! -

I love them both, but if forced to choose, would have to pick Dark Crystal.
Jen & Kira are much more likable heroes than Sarah (who, as a previous poster noted, whines most of the way through). On a more technical level, script-wise, I would have liked Sarah's maturing to occur more gradually and in a '2 steps forward, 1 step back' believable way. I also felt that they 'chickened out' of the endingwhere Sarah reverts to childlike behavior, partying with her friends. I'm not saying that growing up leads to an end of all fantasy, just that the fantasies become deeper.
Also, in Labyrinth, in the ballroom scene (after she eats the Peach), they did not make clear one thing (that was in the novelization)this was the Goblin King's attempt to entrap Sarah in an adult illusion or fantasyshe finds her way out by not understanding and then being frightened by the corruption it represents. I felt that could have been clearer. It's as if the director of Labyrinth felt uncomfortable with the hints of more grown-up concerns. -

I saw both as a child and still love both. I couldn't pick a favourite.
They're very different films and I'll watch one or the other depending on what I want to get out it. I watch Labyrinth more often though.

I think it's unfair to compare them. I love them both.
Dark Crystal is a much deeper storyand Labyrinth is more comedic and silly, IMO.
I watch them both all the time.
This is a logic free zone:

Considering they're different films visually and thematically, I say both. They're different and yet the same. Companion films and yet not. There's enough in them that's the same that they belong together on the movie shelf, but enough that's different that I don't feel I need to pick one over the other as my favorite. And which one I watch is just dependent on my mood at the time.

Dark Crystal.
Labyrinth is definitely a lot of fun (especially if you're a Bowie fan), but it has so many flaws. Dark Crystal is the better film in my opinion, it's more original and artfully done. -

Well I DID see the Labyrinth first, and loved it, but I thought TDC had a more creative and original look to it, while "Labyrinth" kinda reminded me of an upbeat "Alice in Wonderland." That's not to say it's not good, they're both excellent. But if I had to choose, I'd go with "Dark Crystal", mostly because the story's edgier and the message is much stronger.

Sorry I will be Bias here to The Dark Crystal.. As I grew up with it mostly than Labyrinth.. I mean Labyrinth was good but it did not have that Essence that The Dark Crystal had and the way the world was portrayed with all the characters is just awesome..

labyrinth was the best the dark crystal terrified me as a child
and i ony recently tried to watch it again. the only thing scary
about labyrinth was david bowie's huge package.
oh yeah, and willow was a good movie that came out
about that time too. also a little bit scary for a kid -
particularly when they all turn into pigs. but another
good one nonetheless.
