the Dark Crystal for me, even though i did find Chamberlain quite whingy and whiny after he lost the stone battle.
i find that when i watch Labyrinth, the girl Sarah, when she speaks, she sounds like she's reading from something, like a six year old. and i thought she was a bit selfish, wanting her baby brother gone. stupid cow.

It's actually unfair to compare them Dark Crystal is really a Sci-Fi, whereas Labyrinth is fairy tale.
Dark Crystal is more about other universes, and the characters are basically aliens Labyrinth focuses on childhood imagination and legend. -

I think it all depends in what you are interested in.
The Labyrinth tells a pretty straight-forward family friendly story with lots of creativity, humor, and the main reason you would probably like it is because it actually tells a story.
The Dark Crystal on the other hand isn't liked because of its story. I can't think of anyone who has said "Wow the Dark Crystal had a great plot!". The reason why people like The Dark Crystal is because of its atmosphere and intricate detail. Dark Crystal is stepping into another world while Labyrinth is stepping into a fairy tale.
Personally I like them both for those two reason: Labyrinth is a fairy tale, The Dark Crystal is another world. -

I have to go with the Dark Crystal with the bigger edge. Since it was the first of the 2 I saw first. I wasn't too into the Labyrinth, but then watching a young upstart in Jennifer Conelly, I enjoy it as an adult, since I understand the theme better now as an adult than as a child of 11. I was just 8 when I saw DC, and since I was heavy into scary movies, this was one of my favorites.

I love the Dark Crystal more than the Labyrinth because the story looks more awesome and I just love that this world has no humans on it. It is so cool that I can connect with these characters and yet none of them are human. They all seem so real to me.

I recently just watched both back-to-back after not having seen either of them for 20 some odd years.
I say Labyrinth. I think once you get past admiring the technical execution and the doom and gloom of the atmosphere, that Dark Crystal's relatively weak plot is made pretty apparent. I just think Labyrinth offers more relatable characters, and encounters, similar to NeverEnding story in that regard, and it provides a journey that's more entertaining from start to finish. The human element is a big difference maker for me personally. The Alice in Wonderland blueprint works time-and-time again because we've all experienced growth as individuals and that's ultimately Labyrinth's driving force.
I'm not sure what it is that TDC is trying to accomplish or convey. It feels like an empty effort at times if I'm honest. The world is gritty, which I'll agree was adventuresome for a "kids" film, but that doesn't make it entertaining by default. TDC struggles with pacing at times too for me. To be blunt, it has boring stretches with convoluted dialogue.
To each their own. After watching them both, I was pretty disappointed with The Dark Crystal. Whatever though, I'm a Willow guy anyway.

Dark Crystal for me. Both are excellent but It's just my favourite overall. I seem to notice that a lot of Women seem to prefer Labyrinth, maybe it's easier for them to relate to Sarah? Or maybe they like Bowies Budge.

having both in my collection, dark crystal beats labyrinth without breaking a sweat. Labyrinth weak attempt to redo the charm of crystal and fails horribly. The story of Labyrinth falls flat on its arse, the characters are hardly intresting, decors mediocre at best, the three things in direct opposite that makes dark crystal great, good storytelling, wondrous creatures, both cuddly fluffy cuties to horrible creeps and immersive decors, everything a fantasy needs.
Dark crystal will never age while labyrinth only suits kids from the 80s
