His plane disappeared over the English Channel on Dec. 15, 1944, and probably crashed.
The probably cause was the plane's carburetor, which was of a type known to ice up in
cold weather.
He was one of my late Father's favorites. RIP.
PS Of course, with any such disappearance, numerous conspiracy theories have sprung up over the years. We'll never know for sure unless and until they find the plane.
