Flamethrower to thaw out equipment that gets frozen, dynamite because their scientific experiments dealt with them excavating under the ice.
The arctic refers to the north pole, in the movie they were at the south pole
Ain't nothing changed, but the mileage on the range

A flamethrower is napalm, it would make no sense to thaw out equipment with a weapon. You would just end up destroying whatever you’re flaming.
Real Antarctic research stations use other methods like heating rods or hot air blowers.

It would’ve made more sense for them to rig the flamethrowers together, but then it would be an even bigger copy of alien.

What do you mean by "rigging them together" and how would that have copied Alien?
This is a remake of The Thing From Another World (1951) so I don't see how it copies Alien at all.
If anything I would say Alien stole from the orig. movie since that came first.

Because in alien they rigged flamethrower units together. This movie has barely anything to do with the 1951 version and is not a remake of that. But this movie was made by the Studio in an attempt to capitalize on Alien’s success.

I don't remember them doing that.
I guess you mean they taped them together?
Would have been impossible to do with tanks on the back.

Did you not see the first one?
They were stuck in an arctic base with a mysterious alien terrifying them.
I don't remember if it was a shape shifter though.
Yes, there are differences but the first one did inspire this one and Alien.
I was guessing but it turns out I was right.
(Alien writer Dan) O'Bannon drew inspiration from many works of science fiction and horror. He later said: "I didn't steal Alien from anybody. I stole it from everybody!"[36] The Thing from Another World (1951) inspired the idea of professional men being pursued by a deadly alien creature through a claustrophobic environment.

A guess based on an observation or is there a source that backs this up?

In Alien, the engineer jury-rigs some makeshift flamethrowers together using flammable liquid, and a butane lighter taped to a pneumatic gun.
Yes I’ve seen the 1951 version, it’s not a shapeshifter, it’s a giant vegetable man. The 1982 version was more faithful to the original book, but Carpenter was still clearly inspired by Alien.
“The project then languished for a few years until the success of “Alien” saw it pick up steam again, and Carpenter, who’d reinvented the horror genre with “Halloween,” was loosely attached, although didn’t want to write the script himself.”

I am interested in it and last time I checked, a couple of years ago, I think they said a newer version was going to include some extra stuff in it that did not get published the first time?
OK so Thing/World inspired Alien and Alien inspired Thing.
Everyone in media business steals ideas of this and that from each other time to time.

I read bits and pieces of the novella, never finished, but what I did read was pretty good. It obviously leaves more to the imagination than the movie did as to what the creature looks like. There’s also a short story from the Thing’s perspective.
Alien also wouldn’t have gotten made without the success of Star Wars.
What’s even funnier is that the writer of Alien, Dan O’Bannon, made a film called Dark Star a few years prior which was directed by Carpenter and was his original dry run for Alien. Except the alien was a beach ball.

I would give it another chance to see if it is any better.

Wasn't the beach ball a droid or a friendly alien?

Come to think of it, it was a silly movie that I should be ashamed for mentioning.

Alien was made to capitalize on Star Wars.
Development of The Thing began before Alien was released.
