Actually, it's more than that. Cars are much like people. They have traits. Maybe it's the squeaking noise given off by the glove-box; maybe it's the way on a hot day, because you chose black interior cloth, the seats become too hot to sit down on. Maybe it's the way the car makes you feel after you hurtle past 3,000 RPM in second gear with your foot fused to the floor, as your spine hugs the seat and your insides scramble and your brain gets polluted with all of this information, as well as the increasingly blurred reality that's outside of the window. Humans get sick. Cars get sick. We care for women. We take care of our cars.
      Do you see now?

Well I'm a girl and I named my iPhone with a girl's name (Violette), after naming my previous iPhone with a boy's name (Sawyer).
So I personnally wouldn't think it at all weird if a guy wanted to give a girl's name to his car.

I have always named my cars. My current one, a '96 Pontiac Sunfire, outside is teal colored, is named Lady Teal. Previously, and at the same time, we had a black Chevy F10 truck named George (Burns) and a red Mercury Tracer named Gracie (Allen). Yup, all my vehicles have had names.

The OP hasn't posted since last year so I will reply to you and continue this thread.
Someone here suggested that cars with sticks are male and automatics are female. That made me smile because at one time in our marriage my husband and I each had Mazdas. His was a blue stick shift and mine was a cream colored automataic. This was in the early 90's. I named them Ed and Edwina. I always thought of them as male and female.
I love this thread. I haven't thought about this in a long time.
I'm sorry to say that I haven't named a car since then. I understand why people do name their cars. We depend on them daily and they get us where we need to go!
"Please excuse me for overhearing. I had my ear pressed to the door."

I was thinking about this old thread of mine the other day when I happened to notice somewhere that those monster trucks you see in those truck shows all seem to have a "cute" nickname. So i did a little web search and I found this link to a list of monster truck names:
                        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monster_trucks
So please feel free to name your car whatever you want.

I inherited a black 1999 Buick Regal from my dad after he leased a new Jetta, and it's earned itself a few nicknames: mine I'd the Teenage Tank, simply because it can do more damage to other cars than be damaged, and the Matzohmobile because when I lent it to my mom, she said it was like driving a huge matzoh ball. It has its quirks, but I love it.

                                MystMoonstruck — 10 years ago(April 18, 2015 02:27 AM)

In the Seventies, my dad bought an Oldsmobile for me to drive to my classes at a state college. I called it "The Spitzmobile" in honor of Olympic swimming champion Mark Spitz. Thanks to the huge popularity of "Jaws", there were many shark magnets around, so I bought a half dozen or so that ended up on the dashboard and surrounding the radio~keeping up with the watery theme.
Later, Dad bought a white T-Bird that I had a devil of a time driving because it wasn't automatic. I'm only 5'1", so it was a battle every time I drove it. I loved it but dubbed it "The Tank".
My most-loved car was a white Monza that even made it through a wreck in a storm with sleet, snow and icy roads then got me back home, 20 miles away, though they had to tow the other car, one that looked twice the size of mine. I had gone into a slide that had taken me sideways down a two-lane and into a deep ditch. Only a car which had gone in backwards kept my car from rolling and being lost in that storm, as this was a rural area. The impact shattered the driver's side window, and I didn't realize till I got a good look at it later that the other car had sliced through the door, leaving me only about three inches from losing most of my left arm. I was teaching high school then, and my students christened it "Crash & Burn", so I became Miss Crash & Burn! Before that, I'd always thought of it as "White Lightning" because it looked like a sports car though, surprising to me, it ended up costing amazingly little with great insurance rates. The only reason I gave it up was a repair shop that told me the undercarriage was simply going to fall apart. Grudgingly, I traded cars, only to see MY Monza being driven around the city for years after!
There have been others, with my present being a GEO Prism that I unimaginatively dubbed "The Geode". I recall, when I heard what type it is, I thought GEO sounded like "Geode" and "Prism" made me think of the shininess of a geode. Dumb, I know!
I'm not sure I gave any of them a male or female name. Again, perhaps I'm not all that imaginative, or maybe they never introduced themselves.
(W)hat are we without our dreams?
                                Making sure our fantasies
Do not overpower our realities. ~ RC

I'm a girl and I named my car Wendy after the late Wendy O. Williams. I've had it for over 10 years now. It is just a Ford Explorer but it's the only car I've ever owned that I paid for myself.

I had a 90 Mustang which ended up being called The Little Red Dragon.
A friend of mine had a 70s Buick named Clifford, after the Clifford, The Big Red Dog cartoon.
