I felt sorry for Cujo as well. He wouldn't have ever even thought of attacking someone unless he were sick. It wasn't his fault. He couldn't help it.

The ending of the book tears me up every time.
spoilers ahead
It states that Cujo always wanted to be a good dog, that he never wanted to hurt anyone. He tried to do everything The Man and The Boy told him to do.
"He would have died for them, had that been required."
That last quote makes me cry every time.
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush." -

The ending tears me up too. The quote that you wrote along with
"He had never wanted to kill anybody. He had been struck by something, possibly destiny, or fate, or only a degenerative nerve disease called rabies. Free will was not a factor. -

I am so glad I'm not the only one who feels so sorry for Cujo every time I watch the movie. It's his owner's fault for not getting him vaccinated properly. After reading this thread, I'm not sure I want to read the book It really sounds sad.
I'm reaching for the life within me. How can one man stop his ending.

I felt more sorry for Cujo than anything else in the film. It just didn't work for me as a dog lover. Better he would've been possessed by a Satanic force or something. All I could do was to think of how sick he was and how he suffered, through no fault of his own. And why didn't the stupid owner have him vaccinated for rabies!!!! Poor Cujo.

I felt so bad for him the entire movie. I never viewed him as a monster, but as a victim. I was so glad when his stupid owner died because was the real villain. He should have been properly vaccinated and taken to the vet when he had an oozing and obviously infected sore on his nose.

I don't understand why people say "Poor Cujo" for. Cujo was the attacker, the lady and kid were defenders. What are they supposed to do just sit there and be attacked? How stupid is that? Pretty darn stupid, and how would the movie be good that way?
No more IMDB boards for me! -

Sadly Cujo's only biggest mistake was
chasing after the rabbit that
was minding it's own business
in the first place
.
Of course there would be no movie
if it didn't start out that way I guess ?
.
Still sad Cujo contracted rabies in the first place
and agree neglectful owners did not help Cujo's
situation either
.
Thanks Karnivore for your subject post
.
