I hate to say this, but I thought his performance was a little forced. Over the top at times. I could see him acting. With all of these heavy weight actors, his lack of acting experience was apparent. RIP.

He apparently replaced James Remar, a much better character actor and would have likely given a stronger performance. In spite of Swayze's forced performancehe was an average to good actor onlywhen I first viewed this film at the cinema in 1984, his character and looks, left the biggest impression on me. He then went on to become quite popular throughout the 80's and early 90's. I must have been struck by the star quality and charisma he possessed.

I'm watching this movie right now and I was just thinking that all the performances seem pretty over-the-top and forced. The dialogue is pretty clich and corny. Even Hackman is having a hard time not seeming like a ham.

I just switched to this on television and thought immediately that it was a comedy. That is bad. Some parts seems serious after I turned it on but still seems pretty bad to give more than a 6 rating. This is even before Patrick did Red Dawn really great performance and movie. I rather watch Red Dawn than this one anytime.
