      Yeah it is very similar. The plot of that episode (and even footage of the plane) was actually taken from the movie 'Airport 77'. Life tends to imitate art a lot, unfortunately in this case.

        yeah, i recently saw the episode again when i found the series on netflix, remember watching this exact episode as a young kid since i guess it must have left an impression after 30 years.]
        When i saw that again, it was hard not to think of the malaysian asia - but also how the whole episode just didn't make sense to begin with. First, i thought they were flying from CA to TX and i couldn't understand how somewhere in the middle of that flight path they could have gone missing over an ocean, at that rate why didn't they just originally fly to florida instead of texas. Then I thought the terrorists blew open the windows of the cockpit to escape, but then that didn't seem to cause the plane to flood after that. Oh well, I guess that's 80s tv writing at its best/worst.
