I loved the singing, the night-club atmosphere,
the chicks!!!
My question since the singing was great by the kids
I can only wonder if they were lip-synching
to a professional current rock star!!!
Or if it was actually them and their own voices
If it was their real voices they
were totally awesome!!!
Stacy Ferguson a.k.a Fergie was beautifull -

In "The Prankster" ep.. after that kid(I'll refer to him as "Chunk"
from the "Goonies") walks away, that girl sings that song.
If these kids are really singing, and it's really their voices they
are wicked awesome, and very professional!!!
Holy smokes!! -

I remember reading on a website that they all sang except for Connie and Richie. The rest of them were using their own voices but they were probably lypsynching to their own voices. I know that sounds weird, but it is common practice in movies and tv shows to prerecord the vocals and lipsynch to your own voice on the production. While I haven't actually had experience doing anything like that, I have been researching it since about the mid 1980s.

The singing of Richie was his owen voice. Connie was the only one that had her signing part done twice. Once before Devyn began KI and when Devyn was on KI. So in a way Devyn and another un know girl did Connie's signing voice. Hope that helps.

Virginia Madsen? That's an actress, she was in her mid twenties in 87! That must have sounded awkward, her singing instead of a little chinese girl.
BTW, there is this clip from Kids Inc on youtube, with Renee, Connie and Stacey singing "I heard a Rumour" from Bananarama. I think it's really Connie's voice and it sounds ok! -

I agree, and maybe for even some of them they did the actual singing live(but unlikely)
I think with almost all of these kids(when they were kids) you can look at them now and they all have had some kind of music career so we know they had musical talent. Now if you never heard from any of these people again I could say "okay there was quite a bit of lip syncing(to someone else's voice) done on the show." -

I mainly remember the original cast of Martika, Rahsaan, Stacy (or Fergi now), and Renee. Were all doing own songs. Sound like lip synching because they obviously were but to a recording of themselves.
Of course they went on to be major singers. Martika and Rahsaan (to be first solo artist). Stacy and Renee with a third singer to market 'Wild Orchid'. Then Stacy went on to Black eye peas, and now finally on her own.
Some others that were either regulars or dancers that made transitions included Shanice. Jennifer if you account her role in Sister Act 2 and Mario for drumming in SBTB. -

I can't add anything to the discussion about Connie/Devyn, but the kids were really singing; the previous poster is right - they were lip-syncing on the show to their own voices. The songs were recorded in a studio beforehand.
Question: wasn't there a year when Connie and Devyn were both on the show together? Surely Devyn wasn't Connie's singing voice then -

yeah, aside from connie they were lip-syncing to their own voices.. pre-recording their tracks made it easier to manage the elaborate dance numbers, etc.. i think it was pretty obvious they weren't selected for their 'acting' skills in the early years (ok, marta & adam could at least deliver a line) - but yeah, i think it's pretty clear they were selected based on their musical talent more than just beauty or charisma, so they were definitely singing, just not 'live'.. though i think the kids in the 'band' were definitely miming to professional musicians who'd laid down the original music in advance - i seriously doubt mario was ever actually playing the drums on any of the final tracks..
