The Stunticons, Aerialbots and Combaticons got origin/introduction episodes, yet the Protectobots just appear and have their own headquarters. Defensor is just seen at the beginning of an episode blasting Bruticus without a proper introduction.

There was no origin story for the Predacons and Terrorcons also.It could be that the Protecobots traveled from Cybertron as renforcements for the Earth bound Autobots because before their first appearance the Decepticons had more combiner teams.The Decepticons had The Constructicons,Stunticons and the Combaticons where as the Autobots only had the Arielbots so it stood to reason they would get the Protectobots to bolster their forces on Earth
So it's treason then! -

The Predacons are kinda introduced by the Quintessons as Blurr and Wheelie didn't seem to know who they were. Not that the Protectobots needed an intro, but it would've been nice to see since the other Combiners got one.

It's because the people making the decisions at Hasbro were idiots! They killed the franchise with their decision to kill off all the best characters in the 86 movie which in turn made season 3 completely suck.
