The concept in general was landmark.
Hey boys, do you like, sci-fi action adventures? About giant, alien, warring, robots, that can transform into such things as, sports cars, construction vehicles, trucks, rescue vehicles, jets, military vehicles, weapons, and bigger robots?
Best concept ever. It covers everything boys were into. -

Indeed it was basically saying do you want everything you love about toys in 1 toy here you go. The idea was so genius that we're all still talking about it, buying the toys, and sharing the love of the series with our kids.

I was hooked from the beginning, so perhaps the opening episodes. But there wasn't a specific episode for me that drew me in. I remember coming home every day from school and watching Transformers and GI Joe. Good times.
I was then mortified when I found out what happened in the movie. It took me about 20 years before I could finally get up the courage to watch the theatrical movie. -

not sure about 'Landmark' but the ones that stuck in my mind across the last 20 years
were the 'Hate' Virus from season 3 and an earlier episode, not sure of the episode title but the Plot was Optimus was captured and rebuilt by the Decepticons as a Disembodied head on a shelf, a Guard Alligator, and an arm with a gun, mounted on top of a building and wired into their defenses -

More Than Meets the Eye part 2; Optimus & Megatron's 1-1 combat on the dam.
After that I'd say maybe Dinobot Island 1&2, or The Key to Vector Sigma 1&2. Those 2 parters centred around very popular characters/toys showed they meant business.

B.O.T, Carnage in C-Minor, the 4th season intro mini-series. All excellent examples of brilliant, though-out story telling, character development and story arc. And the animation is flawless as well!
IMDBing since Tues, Apr 25 2000.

I don't think there was any ONE episode that drew in the fans
I enjoyed most of the episodes and yes, there were some that were not so good.
Many of the episodes which I thought were great, have already been mentioned by other posters in this thread
But, another one that comes to mind was
Season 2: "
The Secret of Omega Supreme
"
"
Omega Supreme, tells Optimus Prime, how he was the defender of Crystal City, and that he was also friends with the Constructicons. That is until Megatron reprogrammed the Constructicons and they destroyed Crystal City, which then led to a confrontation between the former friends, which changed Omega Supreme forever.
"
I always liked character development stories like these.
"
Put A Little Love In Your Heart
, and then
Make Your Own Kind Of Music
, on the road to
Shambala
!

I think most nailed it, it's really tough to pinpoint an exact episode with Transformers think it was more or less a brillant idea that caught on from the get go. There's a reason it's still going strong after all these years after all.

The very first 3 part episode story was landmark to me, I was 11 and hooked immediately. I was a huge Star Wars fan and collected lots of the toys but once Transformers hit I didn't care about them anymore and all I wanted was Transformers toys. I'm still disappointed how it all turned out with them killing Prime in the movie just to sell new toys. All they had to do was start a 2nd TV series instead of the movie and kept the original show going. It would've kept it's popularity. I do love The Search for Alpha Trion, The Key to Vector Sigma, War Dawn, Starscream's Brigade & City of Steel. But the More Then Meets The Eye 3 part episodes to start the whole thing off was so cool. I did love the episodes on Cybertron and wished they had more on that planet.

Probably 'The Ultimate Doom' trilogy.. you have, an evil human scientist who wants to rule the world as his reward for helping the decepticons, microchips used to mind control human beings, Cybertron being brought into Earth's orbit to cause weather phenomena which the decepticons will exploit to generate their energon cubes.. the name 'ultimate doom' was very fitting.
