    Lt. Bogomil.
It is not well known that the etymology of this name dates back to a heretical Christian sect in 11th century Europe, the Bogomils.
Without getting too academic on the origin of this Christian sect, it is worth noting here that one of Bogomilism's defining characteristics as a movement was the widespread practice of anal sex (although this perception may have been instigated by Catholic rumors in the hope of denigrating the sect). Needless to say, Bogomilism was never able to escape the derogatory epithet placed on it.
In fact, the French and Latin derivations of Bogomilism when converted into English gave rise to the word "Buggery" or "Bugger" (still in use today in the British Isles) which quite literally means: sodomite.
In other words, the screenwriters (probably just Daniel Petrie, JR) have literally called Ronnie Cox's character:
    Lt. Sodomite.
I doubt they'll admit this was done intentionally, especially in today's politically sensitive climate. But in the early 80's, such homophobic slurs were far more common, especially in Hollywood during the AIDS epidemic.
I guess we'll never knowalthough it would be pretty awesome to have them explain where they came up with the name
