I have to agree, I wasn't nuts about it. in fact, its better if you go into this movie as if its a serious cop movie with a FEW laughs, rather then a flat out comedy cuz there simply aren't enough laughs in this one.
Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies! -

Don't know how anyone could find this movie disappointing. It's an 80s classic. While I don't think the movie is that funny, the characters and script were very well done. I don't totally agree on sequels though. 1984 was a feel good time and movies like this remind us of that.

Did you like it when it came out? If so then you're the one who's changed, not the movie, the movie remains the same no matter how much time goes by. It's the person viewing it who has become different. This film is classic and is just as good today as it was then. I'm sorry you've changed so much that you can't enjoy it anymore, sounds like you have a problem there.

Its really hard to accurately compare it now, as opposed to when it was released it's completely out of context. On top of that, we've had 20+ years of seeing these types of movies over and over and over again. It's hard to throw all of that away
When this movie came out and for a number of years afterwards, it worked quite well. Me and the wife just watched it last night, and its still pretty funny, albeit "corny". However, it is far from "hugely disappointing".
Now take something like Boondock Saints THAT'S hugely disappointing.
