Also check out Peter Gabriel vol 4(his 4th solo album)..ooh well check out vol 3 too then :D..lot's of(most) the pieces in Birdy are instrumental pieces from his 4th album(Peter Gabriel vol4)
birdy..timeless music ..my favorite late night/bed along with blade runnner ..oh wel i happen to be fond of vintage and anlogue synths too..can't go wrong with these ones
i'm an audiophool(phile) sounds pretty addicting on triode tube amp/sennheizer hd 650 headphones 😄

it really is one of the most distinctive and memorable film scores from the '80sif not film history. "Birdy's flight" is amazing.

Peter Gabriel refuses to liscence it for digital distribution, so if you want a honest copy, you'll have to fork over 12 bucks for the actual CD.
it's recently been remastered and e-released with expanded artwork, and it's also available in a 5.1 SACD version
              it's well worth it.
half of the brilliance of the record is the matching of the music to the beautiful artwork.

Not really - as maes-johan noted above, all of the material came off Gabriels
solo albums. It may, however, have been re-recorded and edited for the film in
                    one week-end.

i agree, this is a great soundtrack that Peter Gabriel composed! i got it on cassette tape around 1989 or so, and it was better than i expected and it grew on me with more listens, i love the gentle piano parts and then the sudden unexpected transitions into the dark synth tracks that build and take you into moments of suspense. the whole album is good from start to finish, actually i forgot about it and now that i came across this thread it makes me want to find it because i have not seen my tape for a while..but on second thought, its probably just worth purchasing it on cd since it would be better quality, nonetheless its a great piece of work from a great musician.

One of my personal favourite scores too.
If anyone is still looking for the CD, you'll find it reasonably priced here:

                            "Floating Dogs" - amazing piece.

If you like this I must insist you look up "Passion", Peter Gabriel's score for the little known Scorsese film "The Last Temptation Of Christ". Unlike Birdy it's all brand new material and thourourly brilliant.
Got to respect him for putting a WARNING on the top back of the record sleeve saying that it "contains recycled material and no lyrics".
He also did the score for the Phillip Noyce picture Rabbit Proof Fence which is excellent.

I saw Birdy in the theater when it came out. The movie AND the soundtrack blew me away! I had the soundtrack years ago but have since lost it. I'm going to buy it again. Birdy is a great filmsort of forgotten about by now.

I've been a fan of Gabrial's for a hell of a long time. I bought the soundtrack to this movie before I had actually seen the movie! The soundtrack is so emotional and chilling I knew I just had to see the film. I wasn't disappointed. "Birdy" Both the soundtrack AND the movie itself Truly amazing.

                                        Can't stand the soundtrack.
The melodies they use are from songs that have -nothing- to do with the material. (eg. Family Snapshot)
If I didn't know PG's music before I saw this I'd probably like it a lot more.
