Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Blame It on Rio

This is a horrible film, but Michelle Johnson looks good, though she may be the worst 'actress' to ever star in a film.
So, rewatching it to see MJ, I became aware that Joe Bologna asks question after question in the film. Almost all his dialog is questions! I started the film over again and started counting the questions he asks and it came to something like 300 questions during the entire film.or by the time I gave up counting.

I need to refine my post here, I'd initially just quickly agreed with the original poster, saying "He sucks badly in this film.", but that might be unfair, as I am unfamiliar with the other works of Joseph Bologna.
He is an experienced actor with a long list of credits and, incredibly, I've never seen a single one of his projects outside Blame It On Rio, so I don't want to defame him with flippant comments. Every single actor was forced into this film with the worst casting of all time, so I am not entirely certain that he even had a chance to do a good job in this role.
My better thought out post on that topic is here:

I never noticed thatI'll have to watch for it next time it's on.
Also, he seems to have the same two gestures/mannerisms throughout the movie: 1. He turns sideways to talk to someone when he's standing, and 2. He sharply looks away a few times while talking. It's like he looks the person in the eye, but throughout the conversation he always looks away.

I forget if he and his wife were a writing team or a stand-up comedy team - Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna. He's like a stone age Raymond on EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND.
He is in a good and overlooked movie - MY FAVORITE YEAR. I dont recall his performance being much better, but he has a better part and a better cast. He plays, more or less, Sid Ceaser the comedy genius of the 1950s who had a live show once a week. I dont know why the film doesnt get the attention it deserves b/c it also has Peter O'Toole playing, more or less, Errol Flynnand whatever the young male lead was is good, too.

He plays Adam Sandler's dad, in "Big Daddy". He also is in at least one, maybe more episodes of "The Nanny". He is married to Renee Taylor, Fran's Mom (Sylvia) in real life.

I see a lot of people mention Michelle Johnson's acting as being bad but I disagree- I think she's quite good. She's extremely comfortable in front of the camera and just has chops. Unfortunately her voice is so monotone and the dubbing was so bad in this film that it makes it difficult to watch her parts for the audio.
Joseph Bologna has a very pronounced east coast style, accented by forming most of his sentences in question form. It's no wonder he's that slim with as nervous and shifty as he is. What's worse with him though is that his constantly shifting eyes frequently pan over to the camera itself! It's so annoying to me to see him look directly into the camera, scene after scene. As much as anything though it's hilarious.

Joe was a method actor. He insisted on balling her for real. She didn't want to. But the director went along with Joe's demands.
