      I rented this movie from
      the local video store the
      other night since I hadn't
seen it in years. The first time
I saw it, I was probably only 6 or
      7. I think I was about 5 when it came
out. Anyhow, all I remember was that
it focused on a mother, recently
divorced, raising her two sons. The
family seems normal enough until the
arrival of the mom's new boyfriend
who turns out to be everything from
abusive monster to coke fiend. For it's
time, the material seemed very dramatic
and intense. The performances all around
were pretty good. Look for Sarah Jessica
Parker in a co-starring role. The film is
also filtered with some familiar tunes from
the 80's. I recommend you check it out if
you're a fan of these kind of flicks. It's
still pretty cool, though I warn you, it's
      somewhat dated.
A little bit of trivia for you: If this
movie didn't get much flack when it was
playing at the theaters, that's because
it opened on the same day as the original
Terminator. Just thought I'd toss that in.
Anyway, check it out if you like this kind
      of stuff.

I also love this movie. I am the proud step-father of two boys. Luckily, none of what you in the movie happened in our house! I saw this when my wife and I first began dating and it reminded me that the boys needed to be treated well especially if things worked out which they obviously did. It can be tough on kids who live with single mothers when they begin dating again. Ironically, we live not far from where this was filmed.

I saw it in the theater when it first came out. It was really good and Teri Garr can handle a dramatic role as well as comedy.

Wow I feel old. Not only because I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid and thinking "OH MY GOD! ROBOCOP IS A DRUG ADDICT!!!"but I really do like this movie.
I"m not a big fan of "spousal abuse" dramas but this one got my vote because the "abuser" didn't just go to jail or the woman broke up with him because she was tired of his crapI liked it because HE GOT HIS EVER-LOVIN' ARSE KICKED!
                    Great stuff.

This film is quality. When people talk about their favorite 80's flicks, I never pick the ones everyone else does. I like the overlooked films, like this, Better Off Dead, and Three O'Clock High.

I grew up in the 80's and as far back as I can remember we always had HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime. This movie would come on all the time. Its a real classic especially if you're a fan of 80's movies.

I watched this film a few months ago. It's really good. An 80's classic. Peter Weller is a great actor in this one.

Good taste in movies! I too own Firstborn, Better Off Dead and Three O'clock High. One Crazy Summer is another good Cusak film that is similar to Better Off Dead.

                                  Those are all excellent films!
I was fortunate to find this on VHS for 50 cents in the clearance bin of a record store, and it was money well spent. The ending ties up things a bit too neatly for my tastes, but it features strong performances and a compelling story. 7/10 stars from me.
