Did Jason know that Rob was hunting him?

Jason sneaked into Rob's tent and smashed his rifle and tore up his maps. Did Jason know that Rob was after him? If so, how? Or was Jason just taking proactive measures against a random armed "intruder" that may pose a problem?
I know this is one of those "fill in the blanks" things that have no definitive answer, I was just curious as to everyone's thoughts. -

Why wouldn't Jason take the rifle and use is as a weapon as he does other stuff? By your logic if he knew that the rifle would impose a potential threat to him then why not use that potential threat as an advantage to him against others?
