as as a kid i must say i loved this movie
as an adult watching again after many years i felt totally let down
part 1, 2 and 3 were full of stalking scenes, my favorite and scariest thing about these movies
this one had zero tension or build up to the kills, (Samantha's death was good though)
seriously, most kills lasted 2 seconds with no tension. Jason just pops out, kills, then gone
the final girl chase scene was good but this movie is not as good as i remember
excellent characters and story, (maybe best in series), but ruined by terrible director
wish Sean S. Cunningham or especially Steve Miner made this movie

I agree there's not much tension or build up, the first 3 are genuinely quite creepy and have some cool cinematography that takes advantage of the woodland location - this one falls short in that regard

Blame the censors for the truncated kill scenes.

Really doesn't need to be buildup for a character that appeared in two previous movies, especially since this occurs right after Part 3. The audience knows whats coming.

He almost ruined nothing. It would have still been rubbish had those hacks directed it as well.
There is nothing special about the story in any of them. They are all rubbish. I can concede that these movies might pass as guilty pleasures, but they aren't quality films.
I loved these films as a kid, but really, they are pretty badly made. Again, I can see why they might be guilty pleasures for nostalgic reasons, but that is not the same as quality.
                  There was nothing to ruin.

I think the kills are impact only kinds with a few exceptions. They don't necessarily need length to signify their worth. Sure I'm all about some blood splatter and blood gushing all over the place. But the censors simply weren't about to let that happen. I think that opening sequence is damn well done. The bodies taken away and the whole crime scene. The silence after the activity is over, the morgue with a few folks crying. The pain of Rob losing his sister and failing to avenge her, the crushing of Barton's face and the chase at the end. There are some real good things in this.
                    No! You can't be alive!
