I think it was supposed to be based off the Kitty Genovese murder. She was killed and screamed for help for awhile but no one helped her or so the story went. (Now of course we know more of the story.)
The Director put it in for effect but realized how cheesy it came off.

I thought it was pretty haunting.
How many men went to war thinking they'll probably make it out alive? In this case this guy was confident about hunting Jason but c'mon Jason is too powerful and then suddenly he realizes about himself just about about being departured.
I guess everyone sees it differently.

I agree that it was haunting. I remember getting spine tingles watching it for the first time. Someone else mentioned that it was a reference of sorts to the real-life murder of Kitty Genovese. Going back and watching the film now, I've found another real-life analogue: Timothy Treadwell, "The Grizzly Man," who got eaten by one of the bears he was filming in 2003. According to park rangers and Wernor Herzog, who both listened to the audio recording accidentally captured by his girlfriend, who was in the tent (and was also devoured that night), Treadwell screamed, "Get out here, I'm being killed out here!" when the grizzly latched onto him and he realized he couldn't save himself. Then, when it became clear to him that he was going to die, Treadwell pleaded for his girlfriend to run away. Absolutely chilling. This film might get some chuckles from that scene, but after connecting these two events, I think they made the right call with the dialogue.

When I watched this as a kid, I always thought he was saying "run! Get out of here!" While he was fighting back.
I watched it a week ago and to my horror he was saying "he's killing me!".what a bitch way to go

Maybe I'm one of the exceptions because I thought it was unsettling. I think he encountered a menace he was ill-prepared for and his life was about to end. He was horrified and dying horribly. His final words as he suffered. Kind of chilling, to me, really.
                      He can't be alive!
