The scene where they're about to start freeing all the children, and as the camera moves closer to show Indys face looking all badass, it's sooo iconic and awesome! Not to mention Williams wonderful heroic score in the background. This film gets hate, but you can't deny that that scene is great!

It's on of the most unique scenes in cinematic history. I think it saves that movie from being "too dark".

I think also that what you're referring to is summed up in this iconic poster:
        http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=21128
The artist is Bruce Wolfe, not Drew Struzan as is sometimes reported.
Read some of this commentary about the poster.
        http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=11998&highlight=Bruce+ Wolfe
And by transitivity they must be talking about the moment in the movie that it represents.

I've always liked that shot. The look on Indy's face basically says "You ****ed with these kids. You die." Very cool.

Great scene indeed. Don't get the hate for this movie.

Neither do I. I've always liked it, but I spent a number of years considering it to be the weakest of the first three. On reflection, I'd have to put it at #2, after Raiders.

I don't get the hate either. It's the most entertaining Indy flick. I almost think some people hate it just to be part of the majority.

To the OP: The shot you're referring to might be my single favorite shot in all of the Indy movies. It's just perfect.
I never realized until recently just how much hate ToD gets. Maybe it's because I saw it through the lens of childhood, but I love it. Of course, I also love Crystal Skull (and I continue to insist that if we saw it when were kids, the way we saw the rest, we'd all agree). But I'm not here to start an argument!

Hate? Check out the rankings on imdb and RT. People love Doom and hate Skull. Doom is considered as classic. Skull is considered as one of the weakest sequels in movie.history.
Don't forget: If you really love Indy- you must hate Skull.

Best scene in the movie: starting with a dark Indy silhouette then it pans in illuminating his face with a 'you're beep expression. Just Awesome.

Its such an awesome scene, i just watched the movie again after a 3 years or more, and i was thinking the same. The scene on the bridge is great too. I like this movie although it has its faults.

That may very well be my favorite moment in the whole series as well, either that or the opening of the Ark, I wonder why Spielberg went in a different direction when he made Last Crusade a kiddie film?

I think part of what makes that scene with Indy so great is how throughout this entire movie, we've seen Indy outnumbered, betrayed, stranded, imprisoned, tortured and brainwashed, with all these children enslaved and tortured right in from of him and being unable to do anything about it.
It's the first time we see Indy finally able to retaliate, and I think by that point in the movie Indy's expression is exactly what the audience wants to see. He's done playing around, he's gonna kick some @$$ for what they've put him, his friends and those kids through.
Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.
