I love the original Karate Kid movie mostly because it's the one that had the characters of Ali, Johnny, Bobby, etc. Johnny and Bobby are hot, even if they are by jokes. But I feel like they both redeem themselves at the end of the movie. And I love Elisabeth Shue as Ali. She's wonderful! My only problem with her are the clothes she wears. Nothing looks very flattering on her. I know the movie takes place in the 80's and was filmed then too. But I also grew up in the 1980's and was about the same age as Ralph and Elisabeth when that movie came out. I know all about 80's fashions, but Ali's are just very unflattering. Other chaststers in other 80's films dressed better like Cindy in Can't Buy Me Love, etc. I just wonder why Ali dresses in so many unflattering skirt and vest combinations. Oy!

I always thought Shue was kind of pretty (she had GREAT hair!) but she had that '80s 'non-toned' look to her. I found her kind of dumpy, in fact.
Like someone else mentioned, the '80s seldom featured belly-baring, hard-toned abs and such.
The 1990s & 2000s really started that trend.
Lastly, her character was supposed to be the 'goody-goody rich girl', so she dressed kind of preppy.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?

Her clothes were on point during that time. She lived in the Valley. She dressed as a vally girl/preppy look. That's how they dressed during the early mid 80's. Plus she is not dumpy like one poster said. She has a hot body. She is athletic and is all muscle. That's not fat. That's muscle and she clear shows her strength during her cheerleading scene.
