Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mike's Murder

    Gnafu — 21 years ago(July 15, 2004 08:11 PM)

I found out about this movie because I'm a big Joe Jackson fan. He did the original soundtrack for this movie, which led me to look it up. It sounds like a cool movie, I'd love to see it. I hate watching movies on VHS (at least not for the first time, I could maybe stand it later). Have there been any plans on a DVD release?

One day maybe. This was an '80's movie that gave me the chills. When ever I need a good shot of evil and foreboding I slip in this video.

When I saw this movie, the characters semmed eerily familiar. Then I figured out why. The actor who plays Mike looks like Wally in Leave it to Beaver. Debra Winger looked a lot like the young Jerry Mathers (and acted like him in this movie-it is her most deadpan performance). The guy who plays Mike's troublemaking buddy does not look exactly like Ken Osmond who played Eddie Haskel, but he has the same coloring and attitude. I have always wondered if there was anything deliberate about these similarities.

Warner Brothers is conducting another annual poll to let viewers decide which movies they would like to be released. There are 30 titles available for voting, and one of them is MIKE'S MURDER!
Here's a link. Please tell everyone you know to vote and maybe we'll finally get a DVD!

Warners seem to have forgotten about this one a pity. What I'd give for a Winger commentary about this film's backstory.

It is a great film. Very moody modern film noir.

                LOL!!!
There seem to be a fair number of influences on this film from the Wonderland Murders case of 1981.

I have wanted this film on DVD for years, it would be perfect for The Criterion Collection to release. Let's have the full version before it was cut by the studio. I love the whole early 80's mood of this film.

This film should FINALLY be available on DVD. Warner Bros. is releaseing a direct order DVD service for all films in their vault (although Mike's Murder is not on the initial list, it will get theri eventually).

I wrote an email to Warners requesting that they release Mike's Murder in the next batch of archive DVDs

This was an eerie murder mystery that needs to be available on DVD!
