I know a lot of fans might disagree with me on this, but I thought the remake was actually one of the best films of the series, and certainly one of my favorites. Yes, the original remains a very important film, but to be honest it is not the scariest of them for me and for me some elements from it feel dated. Some of the sequels had more of an impact on me than the original, despite them having flaws. With that in mind, here is my classification;
1.Wes Craven's New Nightmare
2.Nightmare on Elm Street (remake)
3.Dream Warriors
4.Freddy's Revenge
5.Nightmare on Elm Street (original)
6.Freddy Vs Jason
7.Dream Masters
8.Dream Child
9.Freddy's Dead

- The Original - The most brilliant idea for a horror film ever. It has universal themes.
- New Nightmare - Could easily be tied with the first. A total reinvention of the series after it had became pure crap. Made Freddy terrifying again.
- Freddy's Revenge - Super underrated horror movie with Freddy at his most evil and best makeup.
- Dream Warriors - Could easily tie with part 2. It still had a very serious atmosphere and the hospital and a group of kids coming together with Nancy coming back to fight Freddy was brilliant.
- Remake - Took Freddy to his dark roots and made him evil again. Not joking around to much. Could have been executed much better though.
Parts 4-6 are pure crap but I especially hate part 4 for commercializing and watering down Freddy. The jokes became way to abundant and frequent. To bright, not dark enough.
Freddy vs Jason is in its own universe, even though it was done about as well as could be be hoped for, except the martial arts Freddy crap.

- Freddy's Dead
- The Dream Child

The first one is one of my favorite horror films of all time and it an outright classic. Dream Warriors has a great story and great characters but it's kind of cheesy. New Nightmare is a great stand alone horror movie, but not fitting within the continuity kind of pulls it down a bit for me, as it's rather pointless. FVJ is one of my guilty pleasures as I love shared universe ideas and the way they executed it was pretty damn good considering. Freddy's Revenge is underrated. There's a lot wrong with it, but there's a lot they do well, like having possibly the scariest Freddy in the franchise. The Dream Master is where things start to get stupid. It's ok, but way too campy for my taste. Freddy's Dead just crosses the line into plain old dumb territory. Not that great. The Dream Child I really don't like at all, and it has one of the stupidest stories in any film ever. The remake was pure garbage. They had the right idea and they could have made a fantastic movie, but the overuse of CGI really makes me hate it way more than I probably should. The CGI gives the whole film a ridiculously cheap quality to it, as if this film could be one of Netflix's obscure crappy horror movies.
Out of the big slasher remakes, ANOES is easily the worst. Friday was actually really good despite not really doing anything different. Zombie's Halloween I am biased towards, as I am studying psychology in school with a fascination for personality disorders, so I loved Zombie's take on it and it's actually one of my favorite horror films of all time. TCM 2003 was definitely one of the better remakes in recent times, even though it's not even close to the original, they did a really good job with it and it might be my second favorite in the franchise.
