- The Original - The most brilliant idea for a horror film ever. It has universal themes.
- New Nightmare - Could easily be tied with the first. A total reinvention of the series after it had became pure crap. Made Freddy terrifying again.
- Freddy's Revenge - Super underrated horror movie with Freddy at his most evil and best makeup.
- Dream Warriors - Could easily tie with part 2. It still had a very serious atmosphere and the hospital and a group of kids coming together with Nancy coming back to fight Freddy was brilliant.
- Remake - Took Freddy to his dark roots and made him evil again. Not joking around to much. Could have been executed much better though.
Parts 4-6 are pure crap but I especially hate part 4 for commercializing and watering down Freddy. The jokes became way to abundant and frequent. To bright, not dark enough.
Freddy vs Jason is in its own universe, even though it was done about as well as could be be hoped for, except the martial arts Freddy crap.
Haters gonna hate

- Original
- Dream Warriors
- New Nightmare
- Freddy vs Jason
- Freddy's Revenge
- The Dream Master
- Freddy's Dead
- The Dream Child
- Remake
The first one is one of my favorite horror films of all time and it an outright classic. Dream Warriors has a great story and great characters but it's kind of cheesy. New Nightmare is a great stand alone horror movie, but not fitting within the continuity kind of pulls it down a bit for me, as it's rather pointless. FVJ is one of my guilty pleasures as I love shared universe ideas and the way they executed it was pretty damn good considering. Freddy's Revenge is underrated. There's a lot wrong with it, but there's a lot they do well, like having possibly the scariest Freddy in the franchise. The Dream Master is where things start to get stupid. It's ok, but way too campy for my taste. Freddy's Dead just crosses the line into plain old dumb territory. Not that great. The Dream Child I really don't like at all, and it has one of the stupidest stories in any film ever. The remake was pure garbage. They had the right idea and they could have made a fantastic movie, but the overuse of CGI really makes me hate it way more than I probably should. The CGI gives the whole film a ridiculously cheap quality to it, as if this film could be one of Netflix's obscure crappy horror movies.
Out of the big slasher remakes, ANOES is easily the worst. Friday was actually really good despite not really doing anything different. Zombie's Halloween I am biased towards, as I am studying psychology in school with a fascination for personality disorders, so I loved Zombie's take on it and it's actually one of my favorite horror films of all time. TCM 2003 was definitely one of the better remakes in recent times, even though it's not even close to the original, they did a really good job with it and it might be my second favorite in the franchise.

Well making a list for these films in terms of favorites is interesting because alot of people on here will simply rank them in terms of the quality of the films not in terms of which they actually prefer to watch so im going to do both
Nightmare ranked from best to worst
Nightmare on elm street classic great slasher film gets silly toward the ending an the ending needed work but still a great horror film.
Nightmare 2 an all right sequel freddy is still dark its not a slasher but a haunted house story The plot isnt as interesting or as well done as the first an the characters arent as interesting as the first an the ending is plain lazy its an all right film but not good it keeps freddy dark but the story is so much weaker then the first
Nightmare 3 the best sequel its a horror fantasy film not a slasher like the original not totally. Its a really good sequel not great but the best sequel it isnt as scary as the first an this is the birth if comedy freddy which i dont mins but may upset some
Nightmare 4 again a totally different movie from the first this is a popcorn movie it dosent try to scare its just fun unlike part 3 that balanced the horror an comedy this one dosent try to scare it just wants to be fun it gets a little to cheese but is none the less a good sequel only slightly below dream warriors in terms of quality do to the writing not being as sharp but again its a different type of film
nightmare 5 is ok suffers from low body count an weakest acting of first 5 an the franchise feels tired its a gothic horror slasher film thats slow paced which may turn off some but its an ok watch
Nightmare 6 oh boy were to begin this isnt a horror film what so ever it cannot be judged as one its a comedy this is a nightmare comedy so how much you laugh will determine were this ranks for you for me its a ok light hearted comedy but easily the worst
nightmare 7 is not a nightmare film but a pretty good stand alone film
The remake the less said the better
