A few things you missed.
The destabilization was very much a result of the wheat crop failure in Russia.
Part of the point of taking america is to gain access to it's riches, and to a starving russia, that would be the crops. nuking the US would severely damage the crops, so this is a deterrent. meanwhile, the US was not wanting to nuke itself.
this movie was based on very real threats at the time.
Your username suggests you were born in 79 so what, 10 when the wall fell 12 when the USSR fell Apparently your parents did a good job shielding you from those threats, and how they worked, so good on them. -

The threat of the type of invasion in red dawn is implausible. The threat of an invasion into Alaska was way more plausible, although not probable. But the threat of war was very real, and the fear of possible invasion was also real. Now you may think those who thought that were just ignorant, but I assure you people believed the threat was real. Perhaps you call it paranoia, and perhaps there was very little chance of it happening, but there was a chance, however low, and there was concern over it. More than anyone who wasn't alive then realizes.

Your own discussion of the film itself is "insane," what with your desire that the Eastern Bloc should have won the Cold War.
But they specifically addressed the issue of nuclear war in the movie and explained why it didn't happen, which is a far cry from your assertion that they completely ignored it.
Which leads me to conclude that you paid little actual attention to the movie because you wanted to dismiss it. -

I do understand irony, and even if you didn't actually mean what you said about the Eastern Bloc winning the Cold War even if it was a sarcastic jape um,
that's not "irony,"
and no one who actually knows what "irony" means would say it is.
But puff your chest out and pretend that you're somehow smarter some more. -

I wasn't alive then. I saw the movie the first time only a few years ago. I don't think I understand what it was like back then, but I thought the movie was very good, even though it's premise can be hard to believe.
