Her atittude just sucks throughout this movie. She's mid-level on the food chain, rides a freakin' school bus and she's a bish to everyone except her one-I mean literally only one-friend. I know this is blasphemous but why did she really deserve to be with Jake Ryan? Caroline might have been caught up into her popularity but she was never mean not even to Farmer Ted who essentially date rapes her.
I loved Molly Ringwall back in the day but in retrospect all her characters were bishes so caught up in the hot guy she shats on the nice guy who doesn't deserve her. -

Ted never date raped her youA sshole! They never had sex. She was drunk and he had a few too. They both assumed they did the next morning. And as far as Molly Ringwald goes she's just playing that type of character cause that's how she'd been typecast. And in case you don't know it, and it sounds like you don't, there are people like her in real life that areB itchy, snob, and stuck up. You need to do a lot of research before you post again. Oh and you should watch the movie a few more times and pay attention!

Listen to Carolyn. She remembers some of it. She said that she liked it.
But, the thing that kind of confuses me is that Ted did not seem very drunk as he was driving her home. He seemed very much in control of himself. Jake provided them with a six-pack for the ride home. I can't see Ted being so blitzed later that night that he wouldn't be able to remember having sex.
And also, where did he get his retainer from?

Go back and watch the film clown. They had sex. Maybe you don't understand context. Caroline was drunk and stoned. Farmer Ted had wine at Jake's house but only took a birth control pill which he spit out. Maybe YOU need to go back and watch the movie and don't eat your boogers this time.
And in case you don't know it, and it sounds like you don't, there are people like her in real life that areB itchy, snob, and stuck up.[\quote]
Umm okay thanks for proving my point. -

Yes, Samantha is a likable character. She is a typical teenager who has a crush on a guy she considers out of her league, and her family forgot her birthday. Most high school girls are insecure (no matter how popular they are), and high school is highly stratified.
Actually, everyone in the movie is a likable character, each is just caught up in what is important to them at the time, sort of like most people on most days. -

I agree with coco somewhat. She struck me as a snob, but she was much worse in The Breakfast Club. "Queenie isn't here" lol. The fact that she didn't deserve Bender is much more defined. Sam getting with Jake, however, would propel her into the top strata of high school life where her snobby tendencies would become more pronounced. She would become a monster, killing everyone around her with her unleashed psychic powers after pigs blood is poured all over her at the prom by the dethroned Caroline. Very sad.

I don't understand this fascination with the geek boy. Yeah, he's an awesome comic relief character but Sam had every right to be a jerk to him. He kept harassing her and making her feel uncomfortable after she told him to back off several times. He just never got the hint, or he didn't want to, which made it extra annoying.

In The Breakfast Club, Molly was supposed to be somewhat snobbish and off-putting, however in Sixteen Candles Molly/Sam to an extent had every right to be kind of jerkish about her birthday being forgotten but then you think
'what if she's this bitchy all the time?'
. That takes a lot away from a character that the audience is supposed to root for. It also doesn't help that she disappears from the movie after she goes home from the dance, then after her sister's wedding Jake just. shows. up. Of course after some reassuring words from Ted the Geek, but Sam just comes off unlikable for too long of a period in the film to really have any sympathy for.

She's rumored to not be a nice person in real life. Maybe that comes across on screen.
