I just like how the movie gave the happy ending to the characters that really deserved it, Caroline and Ted. Everytime I watch this movie Jake and Same become less likable.

As fun as that was, I don't think it will last. They really don't have anything in common. They shared a sweet night together. She's three years older than him and will graduate in a couple of months. He's King of the beep and she's homecoming queen. Their friends won't be able to relate to them as a couple. It just won't work out.
Of course, Jake and Samantha have the same problems.

Yeah, it's weird. I just re-watched this movie, and Sam is a whiny brat. The whole entire time she's irritating. What happens around her is far more interesting. She's mopey and nothing she's done in school really reflected why she deserved the guy or, quite frankly, Jake keeps saying how much more "real" Sam is, even though, never once saw that.
Having watched it again, it seemed really wasteful that a whole party sequence had Sam already home and asleep. IF she's your main character, you've got a MASSIVE block of time missing and a lost opportunity. -

^Thanks for this. I've been watching this movie on IFC(can you believe it?!) and Sam kind of becomes so much a lesser character as the movie goes along. Even at the end the wrap up to her storyline feels like an afterthought.

Jake Ryan has a girlfriend who looks like and is built like Jenna Jameson, yet is attracted to a girl who only the day before was 15 years old, has no body and a cute face at best.
Yeaha serious red flag there.. -

Sam just isn't likeable, I mean (forgotten birthday aside) if her attitude is anything like she is throughout the movie on her day to dayick.

Yeah, I can't stand how Sam thinks she deserves the 'It' guy, but turns around and treats the geek exactly how she would NOT want to be treated. Talk about self centered and arrogant.

I think Jake grew up to be a pedophile and that should be the sequel.lol When his friends says that Samantha is a child he says so?!He kept saying and doing unquestionable things throughout the movie that give you pause as you watch it as an adult. Both characters were unrootable and horribly self centered.

If Jake was sick of Caroline he could screw some other hot chick. He wanted someone who wouldn't act like a spoiled rich girl, even though Caroline was nice to others around her, to Jake she wanted to pretend they were the richest couple in town.

I never got the idea AT ALL that Sam wanted Jake because he had a great car and was richsure, his male beauty got t oherI mean, damn, he IS beautiful, but it's plain to me that's not the whole picture. I think, something soft and glowing about her gaze when she looks at him captures his attentionand she does look sorta cute and sexy peeking over her shoulder at him! Then he sees the note. He's got THE hot girlfriend, with the hot bod, who is obviously ready to give it to him wheneverbut he's already getting a little restless, then he notices this sophomore with the big eyes watching him all the timehe says that to his buddy in gym-and I think maybe he begins to consider that there are other kinds of beauty,things other than big boobs and available booty that can be attractive.
You see, that's the whole point hereyes, he's pretty, but this shows that he is not so shallow, that he is open to considering something different from the standard his buddies say is The Best. Yeah, she's young, she's a bit whinybut damn, she's 16, pushed aside constantly at home by a jerky little brother and a big sister who is totally full of herselfand I can tell you, she feels the comparison between her confident, pretty, engaged sister and herself, and being a typical teen girl, she gives herself the short end of the stick. Also, what she did for Farmer Ted really did show a good heart even he was clear-sighted enough to understand that, and to tell Jake that if all Jake wanted was a piece of ass, he'd beat HIS ass or find somebody who could. You should take all that into consideration
teens, young people, not mature, sometimes shallow or dorky or whinybut REAL people who have a core of goodness in themthat's Sam and Jake AND Farmer Ted!
