      It's a Navy thing. Burial in space instead of burial at sea. I think Leonard Nimoy intended for Spock to be dead until they offered him a pile of money to come back.

          Why didn't Kirk anticipate that? A new planet contaminated by something that shouldn't be there.

            A planet is a big object. I don't think Spock could be so radioactive to harm it.
