I agree that it should not be remade but I would cast Bradley Cooper and Michelle Monaghan.

No remake please it's a great stand alone movie. Plus the movies they have remade recently are no where near as gd as the originals fright night ,total recall, robocop, dredd, robocop being the worst and disappointing of them
I agree, no remake! A Hollywood remake would turn it into a soulless, special effects fest.
They would cast some young 20-somethings who have no emotional or acting depth. The female lead would be scantily clad in all scenes.
They would have mindless fight and chase scenes with crap blowing up all over the place for no reason.
They would focus on sex between the main characters instead of their emotional and character development. And speaking of sex, their union would be filmed as soft core porn replete with obligatory nudity shots, instead of the touching sensuality we saw between Karen and Jeff.

Chris Hemsworth for Starman, and Natalie Portman for Jenny.

I think the part of Starman requires someone with a lot of character.
I would go with Jake Gyllenhaal as Starman
As for Jenny , Jessica Biel

Emma Stone was born to play Jenny Hayden.

If she were 5 years older (at least) Olivia Cooke from Bates Motel for Jenny
For Starman, again, if 5 years older (at least) Cooke's Bates Motel co-star, Freddie Highmore.
Both would be late 20s five years from now and I think both would be perfect for the respective roles.
I figure these two characters have to be about the same age because Jenny was married to the man Starman patterned himself after.
I like the suggestion above for Ledger is he were still alive. Not sure who'd I then pair with him in the part of Jenny as Ledger would be 35 years old now. Maybe Keira Knightly?
As for Mark Shirmin (Charles Martin Smith's role)? Well, if the keep the same script where they find the album NASA sent into space and a remake was present day, Shirmin helped put together that package, so you could cast Charles Martin Smith in the same role, or perhapsWilliam H Macy? If casting someone about the same age as Smith was in 1984 (early 30s)I don't know. Have to think about it. The role seems taylor-made for the roles SMith played so often.

Michael Ealy. Who says he has to be white? And Ealy did a good job of playing an android on Almost Human. She could be Olivia Munn.

All these remakes are pointlessand are never as good as the original.
Let them try to make original movies again. Just let them.

Alexander Skarsgard, Idris Elba, or Christian Bale opposite Rachel McAdams
I agree, this doesn't need a remake, but sadly they are remaking it. What's worse is that the remake will be a teen romance ala Twilight.

Im totally against remaking Starman. No one can replace Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. Please leave this movie alone.
