Its like a scene I remember from one of the Jaws sequels on TV, a boat is pulling a diver out of the water via a cable, and the shark jumps out of the water and grabs the diver. Though I have watched the Jaws movies many times on DVD and VHS I have never seen that scene again. Even when they are on TV that scene never appears. I've looked on the internet and there is nothing about it.

No you are not as that is exactly how the version ended that I first saw on UK the back in the day. It was such an odd ending I have never forgotten it in the past 20+ years. It cuts short just before the cat licks Drew suggesting that the cat may steal her breath. I suppose it was to provide a cliffhanger ending but never really made sense.

This is an interesting possibility I didn't consider! If the ending was cut short by a few seconds, denying the actual ending that shows the cat licking her affectionately, it could be said that the ending was left ambiguous without the viewers really knowing if the cat was good or evil. And people who saw that 'version' of the movie (if you can count a few seconds left off the ending to be a different version) might assume the cat was evil and remember that as the ending of the movie.
This would also explain why no one can find evidence of itbecause it's not really an alternate ending and there was no alternate footage shot, it was just that a few moments at the end were left off. It might even have been an accident or something a particular channel had to do to cut for time constraints.
Although several people in this thread have stated that they remember shots of the cat actually stealing the girl's breath, so your idea doesn't account for that, but it's still an interesting theory.

I would think those that remember seeing the cat stealing breath is a supposition memory created by an assumption this is what the cat was doing. There was no visible vapor in the version I saw unlike with the Troll.
Must look about for a copy and check it out, may have it on a recorded from TV VHS somewhere. -

I remember thinking the cat was going to steal her breath, but no graphics like when the troll did. Then she woke up. I think it was done on purpose, to make you wonder about the cat. This is based on my 1st memory of seeing it when it came out on cable.

I watched Cat's Eye for the first time in about 30 years over the weekend. I've got to admit, I was waiting to see the cat steal the girl's breath-that's how I remembered it. But I'm sure I'm misremembering it. I mean, most of us were pretty young when we last saw it. Combine our young ages with the old tales of cat's stealing breath and there you go. Still a decent movie. The guy on the ledge story was really good!
