I don't generally do "top" lists but NIGHT and DAWN are my 2 favorite horror movies. They trade places for the #1 slot–whichever one is my absolute favorite at any given time usually just depends on which I've seen most recently. Great, great movies.

I really loved Dawn. I remember showing the shopping mall sections to students and discussing the odd effect of a kind of forward-projected nostalgia–what would it be like to look back at malls when they were no longer in use? It's an oddly affectionate film. It took its time: leisurely camerawork, lovely soundtrack…. Those shots of the zombies clustering at the shopfronts were strangely moving….

I don't know, when it comes to zombie pictures, "thought-provoking" is a pretty broad field
I guess what I should've said is that it was the most serious and "talky" of Romero's zombie films. Dawn of the Dead, of course, is a tongue-in-cheek critique of American consumer culture but one can ignore that aspect of the film and just enjoy it as a great horror film. With Day of the Dead, the social/political statements are much more direct and in your face. It's hard to ignore who the "good guys" and "bad guys" are in this film and the whole brute force vs reason argument in dealing with the zombies. I think it was obvious which side Romero was on.

Love this film for both its unsparing bleakness and hardcore graphic in-your-face gore.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

            Understandable point of view, bumpy.
But they all look like they just took a concrete bath.

A profound statement from Socksss(ss), seasoned with a pinch of racism.
