Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Day of the Dead

    chakramstrike — 9 years ago(October 29, 2016 12:32 AM)

I am watching this on Vudu with thier "free" movies with ads. At the beginning when they showed the town they first landed in, there was an alligator on some steps.
Basically my question is this, was the alligator a zombie? It didnt start moving until they started shouting out "hello" on the bullhorn. But also there were two zombies that came out of the building behind it and kinda nudged it down the stairs.
If it was in fact dead then would this have been the fist zombie flick to show zombie animals? Thanks in advance for the answer to thisand again sorry for the stupid question. Just seems odd tonme they showed it in one shot then in the next it started moving when the people were shouting.

No. It was just a regular alligator. Gators are naturally very still. As many reptiles are.
The alligator serves two purposes: 1) It shows that though humans are dying out, nature is still going strong. And 2) it shows zombies have no interest in eating animals, just people.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Gators have tough hide, and could easily wriggle its way out of a large group of zombies; the dead do, however, occasionally eat animals - we see a zombie eating a tree frog in the original NOTLD.

          Good perspectives!
I just brought up some things and thought I would let you know if you want to chime in since you are one of the few left who still likes to chat about movies.

Those two zombies behind the gator were actually the wranglers.
Also, the blood on the gator's snout is real, as it'd unfortunately gotten injured when they dropped it unloading from the truck.

Wow, I never cared about the gator. You gave me a new perspective.
