This has to be in my top 3 movies from the 80's. It brings you to tears, makes you laugh, fills you with anticipation and excitement. The casting is perfect too. Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer are absolutely stunning. Michelle even has a haunting, delicate bird-like quality, and Rutger Hauer is absolutely yummy, handsome, with just enough of the painful, heart wrenching longing. The love story in this movie is so beautifully tragic, it grabs your heart strings, and I don't think you can top the sunrise scene where they almost touch, only to have the moment snatched away.
To all those who don't like the music. I think there are more of us that love it than there are of you, lol. So what if it doesn't match the period, it is beautiful. For those of us who love and enjoy the movie for what it is, it just adds to the beauty of it. There are plenty of gritty, dark, more realistic movies you can enjoy. And for those people who think you can recast Navarre better good luck, lol. Rutger Hauer was perfect for this.
For all those who love it like it is watch and enjoy. For those who don't like it like it is go watch something else.

I totally agree, plot and story was just perfect. It could almost sound like a real legendary Medieval folklore or legend or just a story involving an evil bishop, a courageous knight, a beautiful Lady, a drunken but loyal monk, and a clever thief.
