The funny thing is, within two years, 3 out of the 4 main actors (Kline, Costner, & Glover) all hit with major films. Kline won an Oscar for A Fish Called Wanda, Coster came out with a trio of films (No Way Out, The Untouchables, and Bull Durham), and Glover found the Lethal Weapon franchise.
Imagine trying to sign all three of them after those movies hit. Oddly enough, Scott Glenn became the least famous of them, not appearing in anything major until 1990's The Hunt for Red October.

I seem to remember at the time it was regarded as a failure. There was a lot of hype about reviving/reinventing the Western but it just didn't happen. Which may or may not be a pity but personally I always liked this film.
