It's been awhile since I've seen this picture, and I thought it was entertaining, but what always irked me about this movie was the Rosanna Arquette character always talking about how beautiful she thought she was. I think she even says at one point (or MORE than one point) "I am very beautiful." Not only is it egotistical, it's also UNTRUE! Rosanna Arquette isn't bad looking at all, but I certainly don't remember her being in the Top 10 on those Maxim or FHM "Hot" lists.

"Rosanna Arquette character always talking about how beautiful she thought she was"
Watch it againI think the most you'll find her saying is something to the effect that men who want her for her looks usually don't want to go along with what she finds importantputting down roots, growing things, enjoying the land. Something to that effect. I didn't see that as egotistical, but more of a statement of what she found of value in life. -

I found a screenplay online (incredible!), and I found the lines I was looking for. I'm not sure this is necessarily the final screenplay, but here's the part I was thinking of:
HANNAH
Mr. and Mrs. Parker have agreed to
join their parcel to mine. We'll
work them together.
(she points)
Mine starts right over there. It's
all I've ever wanted. Pretty land,
isn't it?
PADEN
(nods, looking at her)
And a pretty lady.
She turns to face him with a clear-eyed gaze that is almost
scary.
HANNAH
A lot of men have told me that. Maybe
it's true. I guess some women are
slow to believe it.
PADEN
Believe it.
HANNAH
They're drawn to me by that. But it
never lasts.
PADEN
Why?
HANNAH
Because they don't like what I want.
PADEN
What's that?
HANNAH
(turns back toward
her view)
I want to build something, make things
grow. That takes hard work a
lifetime of it. That's not why men
come to a pretty woman.
He shakes his head, agreeing, though she cannot see it.
HANNAH
After a while, I won't be so pretty.
But this land will be. -

HAHAHA!
As far as Rosanna goes, I say watch the Euro cut of "The Executioner's Song." I fell in love with that girl after seeing her awesome bod in that.
Which is why I always stifle a laugh when watching "Silverado" and she says that line about "making things grow."

I also saw the Euro cut of "The Executioner's Song." , I fell in love with her and still am to this day. In her prime she was one of the hottest women in Hollywood.

I don't think her character really thought that she was beautiful but I'm sure a lot of men thought she was. You have to remember that she is a farmer and is dressed for a wagon train, not a saloon girl. In other movies she has a lot of nude scenes and I can assure you that she has a great body and some tig ol' bitties.

Yah, I don't get how you think she's saying that she knows/thinks she's beautiful? Or rather, how she seems to go on about being beautiful. The script you posted doesn't support your statement at all. She says that men have told her that in her life but she doesn't appear to really believe that. She at least doesn't consider that something important in life as it's soemthing that's not real or that will last. When she's no longer considered beautiful by men, then what will they want with her? She wants something real a home, land, something that lasts. Men don't go to a beautiful woman so that they can work the land next to them. She knows that one day she won't be beautful anymore, but the land and home she builds will be. She seems really level headed to me.
And remember it's not Roseanna Arquette that the script says is beautfiul, it's her character, Hannah. So, putting down poor Roseanna for her looks is kinda mean..! Actually, I always thought she was strange looking, but then I I read that Toto's song "Roseanna" was written about her, so, she must be very appealing in real life!

I agree that Hannah doesn't come across as impressed with her own looks. It's not something of value to her, and she knows that men who are impressed want her only for that. They did a great job of hiding it, putting her in clothes that concealed her rather than drawing attention to what she's got which is impressive.
But I also think that she's incredible. While her face is a little odd, those big eyes give her that something extra. And when she gets out of the matronly clothes and into some that show her off Yowza!
As for Maxim and FHM lists, well remember that she's now pushing hard at 50. She was in her prime before those mags existed. But she was in Playboy, which was even better (he said with a leer). -

roseanna arquette is a mega babe. and i agree, in the movie, she does not say that she is beautiful, she says that 'men find her beautiful'. one of my favorite fantasies is to kiss her for ten minutes- no intercouse, just kiss her beautiful lips for ten minutes. hey! am i crazy or what???? 42

Her scene in 'The Whole Nine Yards', in the car with the cop/contract killer. oh man
Not beautiful in the 'classic' (?) sense but sexy as hell ! The original drummer for 'Totto' (and excellent drummer btw) Jeff Porcaro, RIP, wrote the song about her. They had been an 'item' for a while - lucky rock stars
*I should retract that last bit - as it turns out Jeff was not so 'lucky' having died from an allergic reaction to the weed killer he was spraying around his yard. Married with kids and alla damn shame. -

Just as a clarification of Fact, while many people and places cite the "Allergic Reaction" (even on Toto's Official Website) because Jeff sprayed his yard before his death, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office lists the cause of death to have been a heart attack from the hardening of the arteries caused by cocaine use.
and yes, Rosanna was A Babe And Then Some in the '80s

In retrospect, her character in the movie is not very well-developed. First she falls for Kline. Then she arbitrarily falls for for Scott Glenn (!??). And nothing is made of either relationship! Methinks Kasdan and Carole Littleton left most of Rosanna's scenes on the cutting-room floor.

"Los Angeles County Coroner's office lists the cause of death to have been a heart attack from the hardening of the arteries caused by cocaine use"
That's very interesting, and
possibly
true. However, without knowing someone's lifestyle, i.e. that of a rock star, no coroner could make this determination.
Atherosclerosis, or "hardening of the arteries", is a condition in which an artery wall thickens as a result of the accumulation of fatty materials such as cholesterol.
So smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, cheeseburgers, or lack of sleep, could just as easily been the culprit, as cocaine use. -
Bob_Zerunkel — 13 years ago(January 29, 2013 06:19 PM)
Actually, they make those determinations all the time. After all, that is the one and only purpose of a coroner.
Most doctors agree that cocaine is much worse than eating cheeseburgers or sitting on a couch.
