This is one of my favorite movies and I've seen it like a hundred times since it first came out (yes I realize I'm dating myself there)
Alec makes snarky comments about Leslie wanting to have her "career" first before she can marry him. it comes up a couple times, obviously it is an issue for him. with everyone else we either see the career path they are on (or not on) but there seems to be absolutely NO reference anywhere to Leslie's career. She's never shown at work, etc.
Looked on IMDB tonight and saw in one of the descriptions of this movie that Leslie is an architect. But that's the first I heard of it. am I truly missing some vital chunk of information? is it there and I'm just not ever seeing or hearing it? or is that something that someone read about somewhere else and wrote about it here? -

Just watched that scene. To me it looked like she was at either flea mkt or an outdoor store. When she was sitting on sofa, I thought she was writing a check for that rug & she handed to the sales lady

Good call! I'll have to watch that scene again (I just put my tape away) as it seemed liked the closest thing she had as a job. I bet you're right, though. I was watching a youtube clip about movie clichs and having a character's career as an architect was right up there. What's funny is that it's never really mentioned as Leslie's gig in SEF, so it's more of a throwaway fact (like finding out Boomhauher was a Texas Ranger in King of the Hill).

She's writing a check for the sofa. You can see her get up from it and look at it like she's happy with her purchase. It's the same sofa that arrives at the loft when Leslie stops by to pick up her records from Alec.
As for her career, she's an architect.

Good topic, I had no idea what she did either! And have seen the film hundreds of times as well, including a preview that we went to knowing nothing about what we were going to see!
Loved it immediately, only time in my life i copied someone else's "look". I just wanted to be Demi so much! -

When we first see the couple in their pajamas she is working at a drafting table. They ended up sort of lying on it. I thought she was an illustrator, architect, interior designer. Not sure exactly what, but something along those lines.
