Hey, I made a statement, and I know what I know. Nuff said. You want to talk communism, ask the relatives of all those people who froze, starved, or were beaten to death in gulags just for having opinions that differ from the party line. Ask the people who emigrated out of Russia during Glasnost about communism who had relatives who were victims of the 'midnight knock'. They'd tell you plenty but I grant you this, what they tell you, will hurt you. Just like my previous statement, the truth always hurts when you hide from it.
Sure, I'd choose death over this anytime and would welcome it. Many Soviets actually welcomed Nazi invasions during WWII.

      So your point being?
And no I am not a communist.
But you are not much different from them in that you see the world only in black and white. Things are much more complex than that.
Oh and talk about invading..let's talk about how many countries "communist" countries invaded and how many countries capitalist ones invaded.
And no you would cower down and take it. Like most everybody. The will to survive is stronger than political views.
I'm not hiding from anything nor do any of your statements "hurt". Why would they. I don't care what you chose to do with your life nor how opinionated you are.

I think I'd prefer you die in the firestorm too. Meanwhile, those of us less jaded, defeatist and idiotic, can sit in the rubble soothing our radiation sores dreaming of the comparative luxury of a Soviet occupation and a chance to fight the good fight.

I think the phrase "get back to Russia" was something people generally said to any activist who was perceived as militantly left wing.
There was a TV show made a couple of years before
            Threads
            called
            Boys From the Blackstuff.
Set in Liverpool, the main characters were all on the dole. One character, a socialist called Snowy, was a member of the Workers Revolutionary Party.
            Snowy:
But be warned - the way things are going with this government, a swing to the right, tax relief for the rich, redundancies for the poor, mass unemployment, poverty, curtailing of freedom starting with the unions, it's all heading for one thing and one thing only - a fascist dictatorship and a police state.
            Jimmy:
            That's two things.
            Loggo:
And it sounds just like Russia, Snowy.
            Snowy:
            Oh don't be soft -
            Loggo:
You know you, eh, you're an offence under the Noise Abatement Act.
Snowy was a bit like that trade unionist in
            Threads
who was calling for a general strike, just before the scuffle with the police and the ensuing riot.

Part of the commie's job is to sew dissension and strife among the populace, and to instigate strikes and riots by reinforcing already healed doubts and beliefs about the weakness of one's own government. This will weaken moral, cause confusion, tie-up law enforcement and government services, all of which will weaken the home-front in general. It is to push the government into a position of weakness and make them ripe for capitulation, or at a minimum, blunt the sword of defiance to the enemy's goals and forces.

No, that was how the early 80's was.
Communist antagonists and disinformation was both feared and real back then.
It's like today, if someone is against the bombing of Syria.
"What? Are you an ISIS sympytiser?"
Especially if you happen to be Muslim I guess..

                            1. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
                            2. Gain control of all student newspapers.
                            3. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

we found out about so much communist agitation from defectors soon after the wall came down, the STASI had thousands of people in the UK propagandizing for them. One such defector brought microfiche files of 280,000 operatives in the west.
trashing books is like the Special Olympics even if you win & burn them all you are still a retard.

In my country there major part of our teachers were left-wing (communist or Marxist, or similar, extreme feminist, pro-Palestinian, anti globalism, environmental extremists and so on and so forth ).
Heck, even today, they mostly vote on the left-most parties.
I guess the Soviet union succeeded in some areas indeed.

I'd say that intellectuals worldwide are generally liberal. Being conservative is specific to whatever country you're in (e.g. being conservative in India is very different from being conservative in Ireland). Academia has long involved working across boundaries for a common cause, so it's not a conducive atmosphere for those who stick to their own culture and believe that it's always best.
Only a small minority are Marxist though.

If you watch the scene again the woman mentions ''indusrty'' and its then that a man in the crowd shouts ''What industry!? Sheffield hasnt got any industry anymore'' ANYONE from Sheffield at that time in the 80's will know that the Thatcher government more or less closed MUCH of the industrial sections of the UK down, the mines.. Steel Mills ect Dark time for us northern folk.
Thats why the crowd turns hostile.
"Too bad she wont live But then again who does?"

But how was that the peacespeaker woman's fault? It was obviously Maggie Thatcher that shut down all the industry. The peacespeaker would almost certainly have hated Maggie Thatcher as much as the angry man and the rest of the croud; if not, much more.

It's a potent combination of emotions running high mostly due to fear of being suddenly unemployed by the Thatcher policies, and fear that you'd end up toasted in a nuclear fire storm (or worse).
