Sam Kinison was hilarious in his role as Terguson! He would have been a BLAST to have as a professor!

Thankfully I've never had a crazy right wing professor suffering from ptsd flashbacks and teaching a history class.

I did have a professor who had a bit of a freak out when a student said, "Well that's just your opinion."
"We never win any ball gamesbut we sure have some interesting discussions."

I had a crazy econ prof during my freshman year that walked into class each day and loudly opened each class with "Questions?" He never yelled at people, but he had a very loud voice. He never brought notes with him, he never wrote anything on the board, but he seemed to have the textbook memorized. He would also periodically announce that he was about to start a digression, discuss something completely off topic, and then would announce when his digression was over. The purpose of announcing the digression, as was explained on day one, was so that we knew that we were not responsible for that material.
The runner up was a business law professor who carried a cordless phone around (this was in the early 90s), and claimed to be on the coaching staff for the football team. I sat next to a football player, and he told me that he had never seen the guy in his life.

This was definitely my favorite scene in the whole movie, and one of the reasons (besides the fact that I'm a bigger Kinison fan than Dangerfield fan) is that it rang true for me based on my college experiences. Of course it was exaggerated for comic effect, but I did have a few really loony professors who reminded me of this character. And contrary to the common stereotype about professors, one of them was right-wing. He was an American history prof from the community college I attended, he had a strange hairdo (he looked like he'd pasted a large clump of hair on top of an otherwise bald head), he'd often digress from his lectures to rant about the Clintons (this was a year or two before the Lewinsky scandal), and he was a firm believer in JFK conspiracy theories.

I had a guy like him in the 70's, still pretty fresh back from Vietnam and would handle people in unique ways (tearing a book in half and throwing it out the window, halting class midway to go hang out with his wife and kids, letting two students beat the holy hell out of each other to stop a long term fight). He was great. It was a different time back then, and it was nearly 40 years ago, but I never forgot him.

well kind of similar, who when upset would not speak a word, but his face would turn bright red and his body begin to tremble, boiling before throwing an absolute fit. also a large woman similar to terguson who'd pick up this small built fella under her arm and carry him out of the classroom. seeing this movie again i must say the class room scene where rodney dangerfield (mostly staying with a cool attitude throughout the movie) turns into a nervous wreck as the teacher is pushing him has to be the absolute funniest scene of the movie! "dean martin". i recently got this on the dvd release, the old vhs release in the scandinavian country i come from has a much neater looking frontcover, and the motive reminds quite a bit of dangerfield in caddyshack, and i found the dvd cover quite boring in comparison, i think i'll slip the old vhs cover into the dvd pack.
please dont leave i need you here tonight,
i'm enchanted since the neat way you arrived,
youre one pleasant honey to have around,
from the pavement by the brewery brick house,
honey came after the sun went down,
day or night long as i remember youve brought sunshine,
from the early working day shovellin dirt by a shack,
or the late night skyscraper at,
i haven't learned how to cook an egg,
but can't help but fry when you shine babe.
