This movie doesn't deserve a sequel. And this is coming from a fan of the 1980's, and most of its movies and music.
The way Sylvester Stallone delivers his lines in this film makes me cringe almost the entire time. It's like his acting skills, which
    had
    been getting better since
    Rocky
, went in reverse evolution here. I suppose the director is partly to blame as well. But in any case, Stallone acted like a complete retarda retard with a match in his mouth.
On the bright side, the action was pretty good, just not good enough to overcome Stallone's train wreck performance.

      What?
First, of all "Cobra" is an action film NOT "A Streetcar named Desire".
Second, Stallone was AT LEAST as good in it as Schwarzenegger in ANY of his films.
Third, what does "a complete retard" act like anyway? (Political correctness aside)
And finally, it DID deserve a sequel just as it DOES deserve & have a cult following.

Yes, but Stallone still could've brought his acting skills up at least a notch or two above a third grade level.
Second, Stallone was AT LEAST as good in it as Schwarzenegger in ANY of his films.
        No, from
        Predator
(1987) and beyond, Arnold had certainly begun to increase his skills as an actor.
In general, Stallone's acting got better as time went on too, with just one exception : the piss-poor performance he gave in this atrocity known as
        Cobra
        (1986).
Third, what does "a complete retard" act like anyway? (Political correctness aside)
Well, there's 1) wooden acting, 2) expressionless facial features, 3) monotone voice, and 4) cringe-worthy line delivery for starters.
And finally, it DID deserve a sequel just as it DOES deserve & have a cult following.
Actually, after thinking it over, I would've liked to have seen a sequel. Provided that Stallone had gotten his head out of his ass the second time around, of course.
Oh, and bring back the Night Slasher too. He was way better than that jerk
        Cobretti
        .

In no particular order, Schwarzenegger couldn't help but improve his acting skills starting out at the bottom as he did. But still, using YOUR logic his performance in "Batman & Robin" should've been a tour-de-force!!! It WAS, but of the campiest thing since "Rip Taylor's $1.98 Beauty Pageant"!
Stallone's acting improved with the singular exception of "Cobra" huh?
          "Rhinestone"?
"Stop or my mom will shoot"?
          "Driven"?
          "Spy Kids 3D"?
"Tango & Cash"? (Which I happened to enjoy but it's not exactly a Lee Strasberg exercise)
Methinks the axe you're grinding against "Cobra" is selective with the facts.
"Be nice until it's time to NOT be nice."

The worst of Stallone's 80's fillums is Over The Top..diabolical.
Cobra is fantastic and as gud nayly as Mad Mux.

i would have liked a sequel. i would say rocky, rambo, and cobra are his 3 big characters, even if cobra didnt do as well as the other 2.
It's like you're reading my mind. I came to this board just now to post that there should have been a sequel.

According to wikipedia it cost $25 million
According to imdb it made $160 million world wide
that is considered very good and there should have been a sequel.
However according to box office mojo it was only released in the US and only made $49 million which really isn't good enough to justify a sequel.
so i guess it all depends on which source you take as legit.
However there was another underrated stallone gem that didn't get a sequel and no matter what source you acknowledge as true concerning its budget and box office it deserved a sequel. that movie is copland.

I'm pretty sure that it was released in the UK, as I clearly remember the iconic poster from that time, along with the equally iconic tagline "Crime is a disease meet the cure."
Plus the fact that British software house Ocean released an officially-licensed computer game on the formats most popular in the UK market (ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC), which I doubt they'd have bothered with if the film hadn't been out here.
Never actually saw the film until recently when I caught a bit on TV and couldn't believe how bad Stallone's character's acting and dialogue was
