Why no sequel?

According to wikipedia it cost $25 million
According to imdb it made $160 million world wide
that is considered very good and there should have been a sequel.
However according to box office mojo it was only released in the US and only made $49 million which really isn't good enough to justify a sequel.
so i guess it all depends on which source you take as legit.
However there was another underrated stallone gem that didn't get a sequel and no matter what source you acknowledge as true concerning its budget and box office it deserved a sequel. that movie is copland. -

I thought you were referring to Rhinestone or Stop Or My Mother Will Shoot. -

I'm pretty sure that it was released in the UK, as I clearly remember the iconic poster from that time, along with the equally iconic tagline "Crime is a disease meet the cure."
Plus the fact that British software house Ocean released an officially-licensed computer game on the formats most popular in the UK market (ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC), which I doubt they'd have bothered with if the film hadn't been out here.
Never actually saw the film until recently when I caught a bit on TV and couldn't believe how bad Stallone's character's acting and dialogue was -

Why? Even one was ONE too many!! I'm watching "Cobra," on Spike TV, even as we speak. It's hard to believe that they're STILL letting Stallone make movies!!

Idiot?
Are you talking about "The Expendables?"
"The Expendables" was simply a re-hash of every movie Stallone EVER did.
Stallone has been getting by resting on the laurels of "Rocky" and "Rambo" for the past 35 years.
MORON!

They won't be a sequel. He threw away the chance to star in Beverly Hills Cop and instead use some of that script to create this pile of steaming heap.

Cannon had every reason to milk this movie as a series. Even though it grossed several times its budget and heavy product placement, that still wasn't enough to make a sequel. Considering Stallone had a relationship with the company after shooting another movie for them, he could have very well launched multiple Cobra sequels with significant creative control.
But being married Brigitte Nielsen can mess with a man's mind.
