100% agree with you! I always thought the same thing.
Like Miami Vice, To Live And Die In L.A or Band Of The Hand.
I love those movies for that reason!

Be sure to listen to the commentary track featuring George P. Cosmatos. This scene in particular features some amazing insights from him.
"Now Sly comes home and we see how he lives. He hides the cleaner in the egg carton. And here he uses the scissors on the pizza."
Imagine the above text read aloud by Michael Lonsdale doing an Italian accent and you might understand why it's so great.
