Jesus christ, STOP with the remakes! Leave it alone, there is NOTHING wrong with the original at all.
I hope the new one is totally inept and dies a horrible death.

i somewhat agree. although those movies have aged. but however u do have a good point. why remake the original.
it's going to put the marketing of movies downed.
the best thing i think they should do is if they wanta make another movie might as well just think about a sequal instead. why can't they just do that. i meen i know it's been a very longtime since they made the original movie but if they wanta write a script to bring it back they can make it a sequal instead of a silly remake. I thought the original did great. and that they should just either leave it like that or come up with a sequal idea. i hope the real producers read what i'm saying in real life because if they don't they won't realize that what they are doing is embarassing the original cast and the original film itself by coming up with a remake. remakes are embarrassing sometimes.
race to witch mountain- that was a remake but although there was no embarassment to that one because the way the director made that remake he did an excellent job for it. so that part i'm not worried about and neither am i worried about charlie and the chocolate factory, or parent trap.
charlie and the chocolate factory ok i said i wasn't worried about that but something didn't quite make sence with johnny depp as willy wonka. i felt that he did good but he wasn't really the kind of guy to make it right and that part is ok. mike myers is the one that should have got it. and that would have made it right.
but enough of that. for this movie this is fine the way it is. if they have any ideas that are similar to flight of the navigator then they better off making just the sequal not a remake. otherwise it ain't worth anyone's dollar bill. -

this is just horrible. why wont they stop!? everyone is remake/reboot CRAZY! this movie is a staple of my childhood, and i know its just a movie and even after the remake, it will still exsist, but now its being bastardized by the money hungry execs of Disney. they keep churning out 'orginal' movies for the Disney Channel, why not flesh them out more and make those movies, instead of casterating movies that dont need to be retold.
this is all Batman's fault. ever since Batman Begins, the world has been nuts about reboots. yeah yeah remakes were out long before but ever since that one its been different. then DarkKnight comes along and sets it in stone that its okay to restart movies whenever you feel like it. look at The Hulk. it came out in 2003, done well in the box office, but didnt blow people away like Spider-Man so they remade it FIVE freakin years later!! what!?
i refuse to see this remake of FotN, and so help me, if Miley Cyrus or The Rock gets anywhere near it, i will personaly destroy something of Disney's property

Why not? our CG is certainly better than it was in 1986. If the film companies have the budgets to do all of this then it's great to give actors a little employment, especially with something they grew up with as a kid watching.
We all enjoy the maddness 'cuz we know we're gonna fade away -

I dont see why they should touch this one, this film really had no problems and I really enjoyed it growing up.
I hate how they are doing this to movies now, just because its old doesnt mean it needs to be remade. -

I think this could work out really well. I agree that the original is a great film, I don't think it has aged very much at all so it may ultimately be pointless to remake it but I think a new version could be good enough to warrant the effort.
Disney has all kinds of resources available to use now. Pixar could do the ship, the interiors and Max. Jim Henson Co. could create all the crazy alien lifeforms and they've still got a lot of talented traditional 2D artists. I think it could work as a great showcase for all their creative talent being pooled together. I think that a combination of all these techniques would create a visually stunning movie.
I think they should go into space for the remake, at least visit one planet. Even if it's just at the start when David is first taken. The length of time he's been away should be longer. An 80s kid being returned to Earth in 2010. An earlier thread has mentioned that 8 years wouldn't really mean that much of a difference. -

you know NIN O Negative you are right. A kid from the 80s to today would be a great film. 2001 and 2009 arent really different pop culturally, so that wouldnt be as significant as 1978 and 1986. A huge New Wave style overtook South Florida in the early 1980s, so 1986 would have in fact been very different than 1978 as seen in the movie.

I remember watching this every day for weeks at a time when I was a kid. I think I watched it 5 or 6 times in a row, once.
The remake will hopefully encourage kids today to see the original.
FYIthere's a well-seeded torrent of this movie on mininova/piratebay/etc. -

I think everyone forgets why movies are made to begin with. It's all about $$$. They could care less if you "loved the movie as a kid" or if it was a classic. Producers just see an opportunity to cash in on a following and nothing more. Does it make it any easier to accept all of these remakes? Not really. I hate seeing a lot of my favorite movies being remade (horribly most of the time) but what can you do? Not buy a ticket I suppose
