Colin Trevorrow has burst onto everyone's radar when an interview he gave in June surfaced. He said, "I cant speak with any specificity as to what the next thing will be. There are amazing opportunities that have arisen as a result of this. One of them, I will say, will probably create a good deal of ire against me on the Internet when people find out what it is. So, I just want to say in advance that I promise you, for all those who love the mythology that I will be tackling, trust that I love it as much as you do. And I will respect it, and hopefully make it not suck."
Of course many of assumed that he was referring to Star Wars: Episode VII, but he quickly squashed those rumors. So which franchise could he be talking about, well Variety has gotten to the bottom of it and has discovered that he was talking about Flight Of The Navigator. They have learned that Disney has hired Trevorrow and Derek Connolly to rewrite the remake, from a script written by Brad Copeland (Arrested Development). The 1986 original is considered a cult classic and was directed by Randal Kleiser and starred Joey Cramer as David Freeman.
The Original's Plot - "A 12 year-old boy who goes missing and reappears eight years later having not aged a day. At the same time, an alien spacecraft crashes nearby, which may explain the boy's disappearance. "
Derek Connolly wrote the screenplay for Trevorrow's highly acclaimed Safety Not Guaranteed, and won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance. Connolly spoke with Variety about their new project, "'Flight of the Navigator' wasn't a seminal movie of my childhood but I remember liking it and the original meant a lot to Colin as a kid, so it's really his baby. It'll be good to have some balance so it's not two fanboys writing the movie."

Safety Not Guaranteed is pretty much what would've happened to David as an adult. I think this will be great.

feeling apathetic about the remark at this point, will gather more info to later form an opinion but for the most part do not approve of remakes.
        Do you feel in charge?

Here we are three years later and Trevorrow has gone on to direct a
                Jurassic Park
                sequel and is working on
                Star Wars Ep. IX
. It's funny how often these sorts of remakes are announced and don't end up happening.

Also sucks to hear the news that our beloved star of Navigator has fallen into a bad life 😞
Right now, we are alive And in this moment, I swear We are infinite.

For sure. I mentioned it another thread, but it's particularly hard when it's someone like Cramer, who left the spotlight early and was therefore sort of frozen in our minds as/like we knew him then. There's a tendency for such people to become touchstones to a moment in time. So when something like this happens, it's just more jarring than if they've stayed in the spotlight and you've seen them sort of fall over the years (Like a Cory Haim or Dana Plato).
