Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Come and See

I watched Come and See (1985) recently. I had heard a lot about the film and had been wanting to watch it for a while. I had bought the Criterion blu ray but hadn't got around to watching it, so I'm glad someone recommended it to me. Masterfully directed by Elem Klimov, this powerful drama is about a boy named Flyora who joins the Soviet resistance and witnesses and experiences the horrors and brutality of war and the evil that humanity is capable of. Aleksey Kravchenko is excellent as Flyora and gives a hauntingly intense performance. The cinematography is really well done and very effective. Come and See is a captivating and engaging film, disturbing and unforgettable, an essential film. It's not an easy watch, but I'm glad I experienced it. My rating is a 9/10.

I keep hearing about this movie, too. Cinematography is one of the last things I look for in a movie, but I do have it. I might have put it off because of its length (isn't it over 3 hours long?) but your 9/10 will help me expedite this. Thanks!

It's 2 hours and 22 minutes, so somewhat lengthy but I found it went by fairly quick. I've seen much shorter films that felt longer.

The same length as "Le Cercle Rouge"!
I know exactly what you mean by short in length, but long in the mind. Have you seen "Jeanne Dielmann, 2035 Term St" (I know that isn't the correct title)?
I know I'm watching a great movie when I don't want it to end.

Way too slow for me, and long!

I guess I'm in the minority, but the movie annoyed the **** out of me. I had to turn it off at the 55 minute mark. It would take me no more than 55 seconds to explain what I saw.
