Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Come and See

    haewatein — 17 years ago(December 25, 2008 08:20 PM)

Thought this thread would be very interesting for the worldwide Idi i Smotri Fan community. I myself also am pretty darn curious about the results.
The film isn't VERY well known but not total underground on the other hand so I hope to get some answers. Maybe. 😉
Please write down some information about you.
    Where you are from
    (
    country / city
    if you want).
    How old you are.
    Your gender.
You can also add why you like the film or additional information you think others may find interesting.
    So, here we go:
    I'm from "Zwettl"
(small town on the countryside, not very far away from Vienna)
    , Austria,
    24,
    male
Come and See is definitely the best war film I know and at the same time it's also one of the most disturbing and intense films that I ever watched. It's quality will never vanish. THIS is a gem I won't find a second time in film history thanks to all the makers of it!
Greetings from Austria and have fun, fellas!

I just stumble upon this movie browsing for more WWII movies. Since I can't buy the dvd here in my place I just download through the net. I have to say I like the movie and I'm obsess of learning more of during the War.

Great film. Hollywood directors/producers considering a war movie should be made to watch this.

For everyone who likes a good war movie, I recommend Kanal by the famous Polish director Andrzej Wajda about the Warsaw Uprising. Very hard to find though 😞

I've always been astounded at the German-Russian side of WWII for its scale, ferocity, death and destruction. Its like comparing Jupiter to the Moon.

This is an amazing, gripping, terrifying film. I only found out about it by reading about other WWII movies on IMDB glad I found it! It will be a goal of mine to get more people to watch it.

Watched this film at universtity, I left the room in shock and couldn't speak for a good hour later. Very real and it's better than any Hollywood film I have ever seen. It's very emotionally draining and I loved the way it was filmed and the way you see Florya age and his character grow up.
I thought the ending was very poignant as well, as they had mentioned the children being killed and the German guy said that it was because they would grow up to be the same. But when Florya saw Hitler as a child he couldn't shoot him, showing the difference between them.

i found about this because i saw posts comparing it to "defiance". this is far from the most violent movie i've ever seen, though it is pretty extreme for someone who knows little about the Eastern Front. but a month now after watching it 3 times while i had it from netflix, there are images from it i can recall with great clarity. this film has great, great movie-making power in it. something about it makes it impossible to forget. and it is a very beautiful movie, in many places. i will never forget glasha dancing in those boots on the suitcase, the lemur, the ungodly brightness of the flames at the church, the little boy picking up the phone and grunting "Berlin?", the beautiful nazi woman dying, choking beside a wrecked motorcycle, the tracers and the cow, the minefield, Glasha running from the bombs, and the scene of the partisans departing into the forest.
there is no other movie i've seen in the past 10 years of my life that i can recall that much detail and that many scenes from.
i will wait about a year and order this again. i have to say that this one of the best movies i have ever seen. (and i watch ALOT of movies) This is one film that i will always carry with me, inside.
                                    get it and watch it.

Heard it mentioned in an interview in Newsweek, watched it on yotube, the part were the kid and the girl return to his house after being with the partisans seems to be the most disturbing , the buzzing of the flies, the way the dolls are layed out on the floor, and the way the camera reveles the pile of bodies behind the house. like a horror movie but not as fun. and saving private is as good and maybe in some ways superior, but both do not compare to pearl harbor, by the way the blonde girl was hot
