What would be the point? One man on his own didn't unleash all that hatred. Thousands, Millions of people did. To stop War and genocide you'd have to kill the whole human race.

More than that. The baby is just a baby, he's neither Hitler nor Stalin while he's a baby. You can't kill a baby, that's it. That exactly what Flyora did understand, for he possessed the values that made him and him alike truly victorious.
The original name of the film was "To Kill Hitler", that means you do
          kill him
at the moment when your own humanity forbids you hurting a baby.

Yes, I love the message of the film. For all its horror, humanity can be redeemed by a simple act of compassion like Floyras at the end when he doesn't shoot.
I love too when he looks up and crys as he realises the innocence he has lost and his loss in a belief in humanity. But if only he knew, its his kindness that somehow makes it all bearable. It may not be enough but its there and it will never die. That I firmly believe.

Been years but, this is one of the smartest things I have read on IMDB in a while.

Agreed 100%. It's easy to point the finger at someone like Hitler and Stalin and say "it's their fault", but sadly these people only ever gain power because every regular day people are willing to listen to them and buy into their message. There are definitely manipulation tactics at work, but in the end, people go along with it. Dictators are never on their own.
So why do everyday people go along with it? It's a question worth asking, in fact it's probably one of the most important questions you could ask. I'd say often it's because people let themselves be governed by a mix of fear and anger. When we remain compassionate and don't let our base emotions take over ability to think rationally, then the Hitlers and the Stalins of the world can never gain true power.
However, when a group of people become angry and are looking for someone to blame, very VERY bad things usually happen.

You may be able to save 50,000,000 lives!!!!
But we cannot go back in time as far as I know so what is the point in this discussion?
The real question is how do we prevent these megalomaniacs from taking power? Good jobs, good education and an uncontrolled media are the key. Here in the US these systems are failing us and look what we get? "You're fired!"

I wouldn't b/c what guarantee do you have that 50,000,000 lives would be saved if you did? How do you know someone worse wouldn't have taken his place, or if something like the invasion of China just kept going, it's possible 100,000,000 million could've died between those East Asian countries.

Why kill anyone let alone a baby? Just prevent his parents from ever meeting.
