    Someone was asking why this film did not get an Oscar nomination? The political situation at the time, it is not in English or made by Hollywood ?
    Personally, I am surprised that the Soviets allowed for the film to be made, in 1985 - most of their films were supposed to promote - in an aggressive way, the communism. Only positive messages were allowed.
    I can only wonder what the director had in mind and what the Soviet censors signed off.
    Also, the poster, how weird it is ? Like a message , warped into a nuclear colour.

      Agreed.
      You can see why the director didn't bother making any other movies after this one.. He had already achieved the pinnacle of achievement in film.

            It's close. I would rate
            Apocalypse Now
            higher, and Stuart Cooper's little-known 1975 masterpiece
            Overlord
            is a contender; but this one is certainly up there.
