One of the most highly anticipated and then hugely disappointing films ever made.
The original was wonderful. The remake is one of the most idiotic movies of all time. -

I don't know how highly anticipated this film was, but I like it. Sadly Tobe Hooper's three films with Cannon weren't hits, which is a shame because all three of them are fun ovies.
I have seen the original, but not in a while.

I actually love this movie. The only bad thing in it, is the horrible performance by the lead kid actor. Did Tobe Hooper owe Karen Black a favor or something??
BTW RIP Karen Black, loved ya while growing up in the late 70s. -

I always thought this version was OK. It's a fun "B" type movie. As far as the original, for years I thought it was a great classic. I watched it again about a year ago and didn't think it was very good anymore. Honestly I don't think the original is any better than this version anymore.

Geez, the Martians, especially the leader of the bunch, look like characters from the kids TV show of yore, H.R. Pufnstuf by Sid and Marty Croft. The remake totally fails as a sci-fy horror movie by the standards of the original, and I mean
TOTALLY
. The execution of the film, in nearly every respect, is like it was aimed for a 4 to 6 year old viewing audience -

Wow, it was so highly anticipated that it opened at #7 opening week at the box office. Clearly the entire world was rushing to go see it.
