James Karen is another very versatile actor. I've seen him play in a number of TV shows and movies over the years. He's famous for being the spokesman for Pathmark. But I like how he was in this movie. I felt bad for him in ROTLD, disliked him in a episode of "The Jeffersons. I mean the list goes on.
I don't see where he was so bad. He was a hell of a lot more likable than Paul Sorvino in "The Stuff."

I thought he was the best part of this movie. I don't see how his character from ROTLD should affect the OP's opinion of the character he plays in this movie. It was a character, and he was acting. Hopefully the OP knows where the line between reality and movies is. As you said, he's versatile, and I thought he was the most convincing person in this movie. As a huge fan of ROTLD, I was psyched to see him. It was Dan O'Bannon's involvement (who directed ROTLD, among many other great projects obviously) that interested me in watching this movie in the first place.
