During the scenes after the mom turned into an alien and when the father told the son to give your mother a hug. Did it look like she was more pissed off because she wasn't herself anymore?
The father was emotionless, but the mother seemed just pissed off, like why would you do this to me?

Yeah, she also seems kind of sad, particularly when she was hugging her son. But maybe that was Laraine's "detached face", and seeming angry was just her way of being menacing. It's kind of a blurry area, to me at least, concerning how much of themselves they retain. They seem to keep some memories (how to cook bacon isn't one of them apparently), and in Rinaldi's case his real self is able to come to the surface for a short time. The way the scene you're talking about is shot, it seems to imply there's some struggle going on with her, the way she behaves and the way the shot lingers on that hug for so long, and she's really hugging him hard. Seemed like it was much more than a "we want to assimilate you" hug. Not that I've ever received one of those.

Who knows, but as simple as it was for them to turn back to humans after the space ship exploded, it must have only had 50% of their mind, because they did still do their same daily work. The mother cooking, the father going to work.
I'm just curious about the teacher. Was she always a mean ass? My guess is she was on Earth long before anyone else and controlled the space ship to when to come.

I was wondering that too, if the hatred of David carried over from her human self.
I don't think she had been on Earth long before the others though, I think she was just assimilated like the rest. She had been over the hill collecting the frogs for class, and that's presumably how she came in contact with the Martians.
